North Carolina Sports Betting Updates: ESPN Bet Partnership, Naming Rights Rule Change

More news from North Carolina sports betting as the state continues to move forward towards a launch at some point in 2024. Here is the latest news about an ESPN Bet partnership and more.

ESPN Bet and Quail Hollow Club Partner

Penn Entertainment, which runs ESPN Bet, has partnered with the Quail Hollow Golf Club and the Wells Fargo Championship in the state of North Carolina. This means ESPN Bet will be available for online sports betting in the state once we finally see it go live at some point in 2024.

The North Carolina sports betting law calls for all sportsbook operators to partner with professional teams or facilities in the state. There are a few professional sports teams like the Charlotte Hornets and Carolina Panthers along with some major motor speedways in NC.

ESPN Bet Joins bet365 Sportsbook

In November, bet365 Sportsbook made the first move in the state as the first sportsbook to enter into a partnership with a professional team. The operator teamed up with the Charlotte Hornets. Now, ESPN Bet is the second operator to jump into the state which means it should be ready to go live on day one of online sports betting.

Sports Betting Committee Changes Naming Rights Rule

The North Carolina Lottery Commission initially banned sportsbooks from purchasing naming rights in any stadiums or facilities. They plan to change that rule officially at a December 13 meeting next week. The commission believes having a sportsbook logo in a stadium doesn't entice people to bet.

When Will We See North Carolina Sports Betting?

There is no official date for the launch of North Carolina sports betting. The only thing we know for sure is that the state will not launch sports betting by the 2024 Super Bowl which is on February 11. This means we could still see sports betting in the state start before March Madness. North Carolina is required by law to launch betting by June 14, 2023.
