Streaming Quarterbacks (QBBWW): Week 2
Week 1’s quarterback scoreboard is a thing or beauty – a flawless piece of High Art – for those who stream signal callers.
We have Jake Locker, E.J. Manuel, Joe Flacco, and the future Hall of Famer Derek Anderson ahead of Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, and Tony Romo. We have Russell Wilson and Carson Palmer – our primary Week 1 streamers – a couple points behind Peyton Manning.
Put simply: it was a good week to play matchups.
Our Week 1 QBBWW candidates averaged 16.8 fantasy points, with our optimal play netting 21 points. Palmer was at the head of the group and Alex Smith delivered the only real clunker as Andy Reid committed play-calling negligence.
We have yet another juicy slate of QBBWW matchups in Week 2. I’ll continue to use 4for4’s schedule-adjusted fantasy points tool (aFPA) and fantasy points per attempt (FPAT) to spot the week’s best QBBWW options. Note: aFPA will really start to take form after we get three weeks of data in the system.
Jake Locker (TEN) vs. Dallas Cowboys
Locker, after a top-5 fantasy performance in Week 1, gets his crack at the abomination known as the Cowboys’ defense. If the 49ers cared about scoring points, they could’ve easily hung a 50-spot on Big D.
Locker’s Week 1 FPAT of 0.58 was altogether encouraging and unsustainable. It also came without almost any rushing production or significant involvement of Justin Hunter, who played in about 80 percent of the Titans’ offensive snaps last week against the Chiefs.
My only worry with simply rolling out any quarterback facing Dallas: The Cowboys are so bad that game flow problems arise, as we saw last week with Colin Kaepernick, who was on his way to an ungodly stat line in the first half. I still see Locker as a locked-and-loaded streaming option.
