The initial diagnosis for Washington QB Kyle Allen's injury is a dislocated ankle and only a small fracture.

Still an unfortunate injury, but definitely better than what some may have originally thought, just based on seeing the injury live. So, fortunately, no compound fracture. Still, it's a significant injury. Alex Smith is now in at quarterback and likely will be going forward, perhaps for the rest of the season, unless Dwayne Haskins gets inserted back in at some point during the second half of the season.

Washington QB Kyle Allen suffered a gruesome lower-body injury during Sunday's game against the Giants.

Jordan Raanan of ESPN compared the injury to that of Dak Prescott, which we know was not good. Very unfortunate for Allen. In his place is the quarterback that just recovered from his own horrific injury from 2018, Alex Smith. We wish all the best to Kyle in his recovery.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera reiterated that QB Kyle Allen is the starter heading into Sunday's game against the New York Giants.

Allen should not be in lineups outside of two-QB and Superflex leagues, even against a decent matchup against the Giants.

It looks like Allen was kept out of the rest of the game due to an "abundance of caution" Keim went on to say in his tweet. Smith came on in relief but the team looks like it will be going back to Allen in Week 6.

The Washington Football Team will start quarterback Kyle Allen over Dwayne Haskins Sunday against the Rams.

Some reports are indicating that Haskins will be moved to the third quarterback spot on the depth chart and Alex Smith will be Allen's immediate backup. This is a sign that the franchise's confidence in Haskins is waning as he continues to struggle to adjust to NFL defenses. Inserting Allen into the starting lineup probably does not have a huge impact on skill players like Terry McLaurin and Antonio Gibson for fantasy as neither Allen nor Haskins have shown much as a starting NFL quarterback to this point.

"Last year, [Dwayne Haskins] didn't quite have the same confidence that he does now, and people can feel that. He'd be the first one to tell you that," WR Terry McLaurin said.

In 2020, that's no longer the case.

"Now, it's completely different. You can hear him clearly and concisely," McLaurin said. "He knows what he's looking for and he knows what he's looking at. I feel like that helps everyone else's game as well."

Smith was just cleared to practice so Haskins is competing with Smith and Allen for the starting job. With Smith coming off a major leg injury and Haskins the team's 15th-overall pick a year ago, Haskins is probably the favorite. He's also been challenged to come out and win the job by the team.

The move means that Smith now is allowed to participate in Washington's padded practices when the team can move to that phase of training camp Tuesday. It could make for an interesting dynamic at QB, where Washington also has Haskins, its 2019 first-round draft pick, and free-agent addition Allen.
