Week 9 might be Kyler Murray time.

After Sunday’s loss to the Ravens, Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon said that Joshua Dobbs would remain the team’s starter for their game in Cleveland but Gannon reversed course on Monday. Gannon said that Murray or rookie Clayton Tune will get the start at quarterback against the Browns.

The story went on to say Gannon said he changed his mind about sticking with Dobbs after watching film of Sunday’s loss and that Murray will get the start as long as the team feels he’s healthy enough to go. Murray remains on the PUP list after tearing his ACL last season, but he has been on the practice field and is participating fully in the team’s workouts, the story went on to say. It seems like everything should point to Murray here, but it's obviously something to keep a close eye on until it's official. It's not a great matchup, but if Murray is still on your wire he should be added.

The Cardinals' deadline to activate Kyler Murray is November 8th, and it now seems very likely that the team will get him in under that date. With no setbacks, Murray could conceivably be a full go for Week 9.

It sounds like Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray is getting closer to his return to play after tearing his ACL last December.

Head coach Jonathan Gannon said in a Monday radio interview with Arizona Sports 98.7 that Murray is doing a “good job” in his rehab, adding he liked the week that the quarterback had.

“We’ve got to kind of see here the next couple days, see how tonight goes and tomorrow goes, and again, though, we’re not rushing that,” Gannon said, via Bob McManaman of the Arizona Republic, who noted that Gannon was hinting “very strongly” that Murray is making enough progress to be designated to return. “We’re making sure that he feels good about going out there, but he’s trending in the right direction.”

Dobbs has filled in fairly nicely for the Cards so far this season, but the team will at least need to see what they have with Murray and their offense at some point. The Cards will eventually have a decision to make - trade Murray and draft a QB of the future, or keep Murray after signing him to a longterm deal.

Gannon said at a Monday press conference that Joshua Dobbs will remain the starter when the Cardinals host the Giants next Sunday.

The story said Dobbs was 21-of-30 for 132 yards and did enough to help the Cardinals hold a lead into the fourth quarter in Washington, but he lost a pair of fumbles late in the game. Those turnovers led to 10 Commanders points and proved to be the difference in a 20-16 Cardinals loss.

I asked Cardinals coach Jonathan Gannon if he might announce his starting QB before Sunday or just roll him out on game day at the Commanders on Sunday in Landover. His response:

The least interesting Week 1 quarterback controversy in recent history, Gannon is keeping his cards close to his vest. Starting either quarterback in any fantasy format would be a mistake.

The Browns are sending QB Joshua Dobbs and a 2024 seventh-round pick to the Cardinals for a 2024 fifth-round pick, per sources. Arizona hasn't named a starting QB, and now Dobbs is in the mix.

Joshua Dobbs was with Cardinals OC Drew Petzing in Cleveland, so he knows the offense. With Kyler Murray still recovering from a torn ACL, it's now Dobbs competing with Colt McCoy and rookie Clayton Tune for the job.

The job is not appealing for fantasy purposes, but there's a slight chance there could be an opportunity for streaming in 2QB leagues.

Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger placed on COVID-19 list.

Roethlisberger was deemed a high-risk, close contact, per source. This comes after TE Vance McDonald tested positive. Provided Big Ben passes COVID tests this week, he would be eligible to come off the list Saturday and play Sunday against the Bengals, according to Schefter. If Roethlisberger can't play, Rudolph would be expected to get the start with Dobbs the backup.
