Through three games Kevin Boss has only six catches.
So far this season, the Chiefs have had a tough time covering the middle of the field. That’s where the Eagles’ Desean Jackson gashed them last week for a few catches, including a 64-yard touchdown on a slant. It’s also where the tight end often roams and, in the case of the Kansas City defense this season, often roams freely.
In the season opener, the Ravens’ Todd Heap made five grabs for 74 yards and one touchdown. The Chiefs then held the Raiders’ Zach Miller without a catch (thanks in part to a dreadful performance by Oakland quarterback Jamarcus Russell, who completed only 7 of 24 passes), but Kansas City then allowed the Eagles’ Brent Celek to record eight receptions (tying a career-high he had set the week before) for 104 yards and a touchdown.
Numbers like those must make the Giants wonder if Boss, whose career-high of six catches matches his current season total, will play a much bigger role this week than he did in the first three games.
