Lions’ RB David Montgomery will not practice today ahead of Detroit’s Monday night game vs. the Raiders due to the rib injury that had sidelined him last week vs. Baltimore. After Monday night, the Lions have their bye week.

The most likely scenario is that we see Montgomery back in an early-down role in Week 10. For Week 8, we have Jahmyr Gibbs in a great matchup, with Craig Reynolds rotating in behind him, making the former a fantastic play in fantasy.

Lions’ HC Dan Campbell told reporters that rookie RB Jahmyr Gibbs will play vs. the Ravens and added this: “Certainly I think he’s going to need to take the load of (the work)….I’d like to say we’re going to be careful with him, but the reality is we need him.”

Dan Campbell has been pretty straight forward with his coach speak this year, which means we can't leave Gibbs out of lineups this weekend. Craig Reynolds can be considered an RB3 or FLEX play, as he may still garner the David Montgomery goal-line work.

X-rays were negative for Montgomery, which was good news, but it still sounds like Monty will miss at least a game. Gibbs was out with a hamstring injury but it sounds like he may be close to returning. If not, Reynolds would be next man up. He carried 10 times but for just 15 yards after taking over for Montgomery. Reynolds did add two catches for 28 yards. The Lions play at the Ravens in Week 7 and then Monday night of Week 8 before a Week 9 bye. There obviously wasn't an exact timeframe given for Montgomery, but it's possible the team's bye week factors in any decisions.

Montgomery left owners disappointed after leaving early in Week 6. The Lions were forced to go with Reynolds as the RB1 with Gibbs also out of action. Monty may just be dealing with a pain and comfort issue heading into Week 7 with the injured ribs, so owners will want to monitor his practice status. The Lions are at the Ravens next week in an early Sunday matchup, so we'll have a good idea by then about Montgomery's status. Even after leaving Week 6 with just six carriers, Monty is still averaging over 23 carries per game this season.

Dan Campbell said Jahmyr Gibbs had "a really good day" of practice Wednesday, got a breather yesterday. Said he can't say with any certainty whether Gibbs will be a go Sunday.

The Detroit Lions are optimistic that leading receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown will return to action Sunday against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after a one-game absence due to an abdominal injury.

HC Dan Campbell said he, "feels pretty good" about St. Brown playing in Week 6. Campbell went on to describe St. Brown as "more than questionable" and likely closer to probable. Campbell did add the team will have to see how the week goes, but it certainly seems like good news for the Lions and St. Brown fantasy owners.
