2021 RSM Classic: Round 2 Matchups

Scoring was so low Thursday at the opening round of the RSM Classic that first-round leader Sebastian Munoz's career-low score of 60 on the Seaside Course earned him only a one-shot cushion over four other players who sit one shot back. Past RSM champion Mackenzie Hughes, Sea Island member Zach Johnson, Chez Reavie, and Scott Stallings are each at nine-under par. Behind them sit 14 under other players within three shots of the lead. The scoring average of -3.69 at Seaside was 0.4 shots lower than the typically easier Plantation Course. It was also a tournament record and the second-lowest for any round on the PGA Tour since 1983 when the Tour began tracking hole-by-hole data.

Scoring was so ideal that 33 players shot 66 or better on the two courses and all but 21 players in the field of 156 broke par. Weather conditions for the courses, both of which are located just off the Atlantic Ocean, were absolutely ideal and definitely contributed to the record-low scoring. Tomorrow will bring a dramatic change. The temperature is forecast to drop at least 10 degrees along with northeast winds blowing at 15-25 MPH. For tomorrow's round, the smartest strategy is to target players who have had past success in windy conditions. I will be favoring players on the Plantation course as it is further away from the coast and less exposed to the wind due to most of the holes being tree-lined. With multiple courses and ever-changing conditions, there is plenty of value to be had for in-tournament outright bets.
