Many of the Chiefs’ starters played well into the fourth quarter of their 20-19 loss to the Packers, but injuries piled up along the way. Quarterback Matt Cassel, tight end Tony Moeaki, right tackle Barry Richardson and safety Eric Berry were injured in the first half.
It was unclear whether any of them would be ready to play Sept. 11 when the regular season begins with a game against the Buffalo Bills at Arrowhead Stadium.
Cassel left the game in the second quarter when the wind was knocked out of him after a sack by 340-pound Howard Green. But Cassel said he’d ready to play against Buffalo.
“We were just being cautious,” Cassel said. “I wanted to go back in.
“Normally, I can take (getting hit by a 340-pound defender). I don’t know what happened. Actually, I think it was (landing on) the ball more than anything.”
