On Sunday against the Cowboys, Rock Cartwright took on a new identity – starting running back for the Washington Redskins.
He would have worked his usual job as return specialist against the Cowboys. In 2006, he posted the third-longest kickoff return in club history (100 yards) against Dallas.
But the Redskins decided on Thursday to sit Clinton Portis (concussion). Then Ladell Betts left the game with a knee injury on Washington's second drive.
Enter Rock. Cartwright, 5-8, 213, looked like a veteran workhorse. He led the Redskins in rushing and receiving, finishing with 67 yards on 13 carries and 73 yards on seven receptions.
