2022 Fantasy Upside
We’ve seen the fantasy upside for years now with Kamara. A lot of the offense runs through him. He can do it all. Even with missing four games in 2021, Kamara totaled almost 1,250 yards and nine touchdowns. As long as he is on the field, he is a strong fantasy option and a scoring threat.
2022 Fantasy Downside
Of course, this year, the “as long as he is on the field” takes on a whole new meaning for Kamara. He was arrested in Las Vegas during Pro Bowl weekend for allegedly assaulting a man. So there’s no telling if he’ll be able to play a full 17 games due to this case. One key to remember is that his first hearing is set for August 1, a hearing that was originally supposed to take place in April.
2022 Bottom Line
As our John Paulsen writes: “The delay (in Kamara’s hearing) increases the chances that he’ll be able to play a full season as the case makes its way through the legal system. But the video is key here. If it’s as (disturbing) as the police report say it is, and if it’s leaked or the NFL otherwise obtains it, it could force the league’s hand as far as a suspension is concerned. If he dodges a suspension, Kamara has top-five upside, but it should be noted that his touches were depressed (16.8 vs. 24.4) in the four games he played with Mark Ingram.” But as Paulsen also notes, Ingram is now 32 while Kamara is still in his prime. You have to think if Kamara is able to play, he’ll see the field plenty and has tremendous upside. But you wouldn’t be blamed if you decided to shy away because of the legal issues.
