Scouting report

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Cleveland Browns

Cam Newton had four interceptions against the Buccaneers last week, but he threw for 300 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also added 33 yards on the ground. Newton and the Panthers have lost four games in a row, but he’s thrown nine touchdown passes in that time and should still be considered an excellent week-to-week fantasy starter.

This week, Newton faces a Browns defense that has been very average against quarterback this year. He’s been banged up the last couple of weeks, so fantasy owners should monitor his status, but if he’s active, he should be in all lineups. The Browns offense should keep the game interesting and it could be a high-scoring affair.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Cam Newton only threw for 256 yards, two touchdowns and a pick last week in a close loss to the Seahawks, but he added 63 yards on the ground on eight rushing attempts, turning in a solid fantasy performance overall. Newton’s had a pretty high floor throughout the season, failing to provide multiple touchdowns only once all season. His 417 yards and four touchdowns on the ground make him a threat to score big numbers in any given week.

Newton should do well against the Buccaneers this week. Panthers handled Tampa Bay four weeks ago, limiting Newton to only 25 pass attempts, but only the Bengals and Falcons have allowed more fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks this season than the Buccaneers. Cam is an every-week starter with exceptional upside in a great matchup. Start him.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Cam Newton had a nice game against the Lions last week, throwing for 357 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw an interception and briefly left the game due to an ankle injury off an illegal hit that wasn’t called. The Panthers have now lost two games in a row, and Newton has only run the ball four times for 12 yards in the past two outings.

This week, our rankings have Newton set to bounce back, despite facing a tough Seattle defense that has allowed the third-fewest fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season. Newton doesn’t have the best track record statistically against the Seahawks, but his ability to improvise on the run and the fact that two of the top fantasy quarterbacks are on byes this week makes him a must-start regardless of matchup.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Detroit Lions

Cam Newton had a quiet day against the Steelers last week, throwing for only 193 yards, two touchdowns and a pick in a lopsided defeat. He added only 10 yards on two rushing attempts, a season-low, and was sacked five times. Cam is still a steady option week-to-week as a dual-threat quarterback, and fantasy owners shouldn’t be worried about his bad Thursday night game.

This week, Cam should rebound against the Lions. Detroit was absolutely torched by Mitch Trubisky last week to the tune of 355 yards and four touchdowns, including one on the ground. Expect a bounce-back game, and Cam should be active in all league formats.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 10 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Cam Newton had a good enough game against the Buccaneers last week, throwing for 247 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He added 33 yards on the ground and he completed an efficient 76 percent of his passes in a key division victory for the Panthers.

This week, Newton will face a Steelers defense that has given up the fifth-most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, and has only forced five interceptions. With a potent Pittsburgh offense likely keeping the Panthers from mounting an early, commanding lead, Newton should be in for an active and successful fantasy day. He should be active in all leagues.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Cam Newton had a great game against a tough Ravens defense last week, putting up 219 yards and two touchdowns passing, while adding 52 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Newton now has 17 total touchdowns, including four on the ground, putting him on pace for 38.9 this season.

This week, Newton should be dynamite against a vulnerable Buccaneers defense that has been torched all season. They have allowed the most fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this season, including a league-high 20 touchdown passes to the position. Tampa Bay’s defense has forced only one interception all year, and Newton should be in for a great game. We have him as an elite option this week, and he should be active in all formats.

CAR QB Cam Newton - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Cam Newton had a decent fantasy outing against the Eagles last week, throwing for 269 yards, two touchdowns, and no interceptions in a thrilling comeback victory. He also added 49 yards on the ground, supplementing his passing totals as he often does. Newton’s versatility and ability as a playmaker are what makes him such a valuable fantasy option week-to-week.

This week, Newton will have his hands full with the Ravens defense. Only the Seahawks are allowing fewer fantasy points per game to opposing quarterbacks this year. While his versatility makes him worth starting every game, temper your expectations in a tough matchup against a well-coached defense. We have him just outside our top 10 this week.
