Redskins tight end Chris Cooley’s left knee has not experienced any recent swelling, and he hopes to begin on-field work next week and be ready to play in the Sept. 11 season opener against the New York Giants.

“This is the best that my knee has felt since last year before I started having soreness,” he said in the Redskins locker room Monday morning. “I can’t imagine not playing against the Giants. … I’m not thinking [about returning] Week 2, Week 3, Week 4. My mindset is completely on Week 1.”

Fantasy Impact: 

It's not a terrible idea for owners in PPR leagues with large rosters to draft both Washington TEs because at this point, they can both be had rather cheaply. If Cooley can go, he's starter-quality, and if he can't Davis would be ready to step in.

Skins TE Cooley will play with pain all year

Redskins TE Chris Cooley expects to have to manage pain all season in his surgically repaired knee, but he plans on participating in practices during the week.

He takes pride in his durability, having rarely missed a practice in more than five seasons before he broke his leg during a game in 2009.

Fantasy Impact: 

Cooley is ranked down our list at 29, but he's getting attention in drafts with an ADP of the 14th round. Playing with pain is a sign to look in another direction for a backup TE. He's most likely going to miss time at some point this season.
