NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 2, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Tampa Bay
C.J. Spiller was inactive for the Saints Week 1 loss to the Cardinals due to a knee injury and was limited in practice on Thursday. That said, he's on track to play in Sunday's game versus the Bucs and said he was "feeling good" earlier in the week. Sean Payton loves to get the ball into the hands of his running backs and Spiller is a home run threat on every touch. If he is active, he's a low-end RB2 in PPR formats and a flex option in standard leagues. Monitor his status leading up to the Saints 1:00PM ET kickoff.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Arizona
C.J. Spiller is out this week after having arthroscopic knee surgery last month. He should return for Week 2 and when he does, he'll be a viable RB2 in PPR formats thanks to Sean Payton's ability to draw up plays for dynamic players in space. Monitor Spiller's status heading into next week.

NO RB C.J. Spiller - 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
No team threw the ball more to running backs in 2014 (166 times) than the Saints. That bodes well for C.J. Spiller’s production, as he figures to fill a role similar to former New Orleans’ RBs Darren Sproles and Reggie Bush in Sean Payton’s offense. Our projections have Spiller catching 72 passes this season, which would make him a high-end RB2 in PPR leagues. Payton is one of the best play-callers in the league and excels at getting the ball into the hands of space players. If Spiller stays healthy, he will have a fantasy impact in 2015.

Fantasy Downside
Spiller has been a fantasy tease since entering the league in 2010. After he finished as fantasy’s No. 7 running back in 2012, owners got burned in 2013 when he fell to RB27 and then he completely fell off the map in 2014 after breaking his collarbone in October. (Spiller dropped all the way to RB72 thanks to playing in only nine games.) The hype surrounding Spiller this offseason is palpable and it could lead to the newest Saint being overdrafted this offseason. Outside of 2012, Spiller’s production hasn’t matched his fantasy potential. He's also dealing with a knee injury, although Payton says he should be ready for Week 1.

Bottom Line
Spiller is worth the investment as a RB2 in PPR leagues and offers good value as an early fourth-round pick. Assuming he stays healthy, he could catch 70-plus passes in Payton’s offense and if something were to happen to Mark Ingram, Spiller is also first in line to become the Saints’ top back. But while we have him ranked as our No. 14 overall RB in PPR leagues, he’s our No. 27 RB in standard formats, so be conscious of your league’s scoring. Spiller should be viewed only as depth in standard leagues.

BUF RB C.J. Spiller - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17: Spiller vs Patriots

C.J. Spiller returned to the lineup for the first time since Week 7 and played on 25% of the snaps. He had eight touches, but not much else except the four catches that helped his PPR teams.

The Bills should be in win mode as they would like to beat the division champs. Spiller will get at least the same amount of snaps this week and probably more touches, but Fred Jackson will still be the primary back. Spiller won't have enough impact to warrant a fantasy start so keep him on the bench for Week 17.

BUF RB C.J. Spiller - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7: Spiller vs Vikings
The stock might have hit rock bottom with C.J. Spiller last week. Only six carries and he only played 12 snaps. Fred Jackson is getting all the love from the Bills coaching staff. A key turnover led Spiller to the bench last week and now we have to sit and watch his usage moving forward.

Spiller might still have some value this week because of the matchup. Minnesota is 27th in aFPA to running backs so if the coaching staff gives him another chance, he could have some fantasy value. Spiller rates an RB3 or flex for Week 7.

BUF RB C.J. Spiller - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6: Spiller vs.Patriots
C.J. Spiller might be one of the bigger disappointments in fantasy so far in 2014. Everyone expected him to break out as a serious RB1, but his teammate Fred Jackson has put up better numbers. It will be something to watch going forward, but Spiller's numbers have been bad.

The Bills running backs have a good matchup against the Pats defense, but Spiller might not even benefit from that. He rates a RB3 for Week 6.

BUF RB C.J. Spiller - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5: Spiller vs. Bills
C.J. Spiller has been pretty much the same running back the whole season which is not good for his owners. He is getting about 15-18 touches and that's not bad except most were expecting him to be a solid RB1.

Spiller will go against an average Detroit run defense, but the matchup isn't very relevant because the touches are being split between Spiller and Fred Jackson.

You can still start Spiller, but he only rates a high-end RB3 or flex for Week 5. He's a boom or bust play weekly.
