49ers TE Vernon Davis has six catches and no touchdowns in the last six games and he left early in a Week 16 loss against Seattle because of a concussion that also limited him in the regular-season finale against Arizona. Even some of the most faithful and famous 49ers have questioned why coach Jim Harbaugh and QB Colin Kaepernick can't get Davis the ball more.

Harbaugh has repeatedly said Davis remains an integral part of the game plan each week, touting the tight end's pass protection and blocking downfield. He insists Davis draws double coverages on almost every play, freeing up others to make plays.

"They're wary of getting beat by Vernon Davis," Harbaugh said. "I think that's the biggest, greatest share."

49 coach Jim Harbaugh described TE Vernon Davis' concussion as "minor."

Fantasy Impact: 

He'll still have to pass tests to get back on to the field for Week 17. But he hasn't been much of a fantasy factor due to not having a connection yet with QB Colin Kaepernick.

The Colin Kaepernick-Vernon Davis connection is still under construction, said tight end Davis, who said he's having to start from scratch as far as building chemistry with a new quarterback.

"That's something me and Kap don't have right now," said Davis, who was held to one catch Sunday in New England. "We don't have it. You have to expect (that because) he just stepped in. Me and Alex - we've been there. It takes time. It took time for me and Alex to get like that."

Fantasy Impact: 

Davis was likely drafted as one of the numerous second tier TEs this summer, and has been a big disappointment lately. He can't be trusted in what is likely your fantasy finals week.

At his Monday press conference, 49er coach Jim Harbaugh was asked if there’s a game day role for LaMichael James working with quarterback Colin Kaepernick on read-option plays.

“Yeah, there’s a possibility of that,” Harbaugh said.

It wasn’t part of the plan against the Rams, Harbaugh added. “But that doesn’t mean it won’t be, going forward,” he said.

Fantasy Impact: 

49ers GM Trent Baalke also gave a plug to James and said he'd get opportunities. The team doesn't really have backup to Frank Gore with Kendall Hunter out for the year. Brandon Jacobs has seen five carries over the last two weeks and has a total of seven yards. James is much more explosive than Anthony Dixon or Jacobs, so there's some potential there if James can take advantage.
