Fantasy Upside
Daniel Jones earned himself a nice new contract with a breakout season in 2022. He finished with career highs in most significant passing categories - aside from touchdown passes - and only threw five interceptions in 16 starts. For the first time in his four-year career, Jones led the Giants to a winning record, including a playoff victory over the Vikings. His rushing production also bloomed, with 708 yards and seven touchdowns on the ground in his first season under Brian Daboll. He finished as the QB9 in fantasy on the year. Jones also has increased weapons around him, including new tight end Darren Waller.
Fantasy Downside
Jones has some limitations in his passing ability and has limited upside on a team that features the run game. While his rushing production raises his floor, he doesn’t seem to have the passing upside that would catapult him into elite fantasy quarterback territory. While Waller is a nice addition, he’ll be 31 years old in September, and Jones is still surrounded by questionable - albeit promising - options at wide receiver.
2023 Bottom Line
Jones is likely to finish right around where he did last year. He was a fringe QB1 option worth starting in most weeks, and that’s how he should be considered again in 2023. He’s actually a bargain in double-digit rounds given his rushing upside and stability as the starter, so fantasy managers wanting to wait on quarterback should look to Jones as a reliable option.
