The Eagles, as expected, placed the franchise tag on Michael Vick this morning, giving them the ability to retain the Pro Bowl quarterback for at least another year.
Vick said he was "happy."
"Happy to be an Eagle," he said, smiling as he left the team's NovaCare Complex Tuesday afternoon. He did not stop to answer further questions.
The team also placed the transition tag on Pro Bowl kicker David Akers, which would allow the Eagles to match any offers he receives if and when free agency begins.
"Michael Vick and David Akers were two of our most valuable players last year," Andy Reid said in a news release. "They were well deserving of their Pro Bowl berths and we're happy to take this step to ensure that they'll be back in Philadelphia next season."Vick: "Happy to be an Eagle" after franchise tag

Terrell Owens put some bite back into the Bengals' offense.
Owens caught a 43-yard pass along the sideline, setting up the only touchdown by Cincinnati's starting offense Friday night in a 22-9 preseason victory over the Philadelphia Eagles that showed he's still got a lot left.
"According to sources and anybody that analyzes talent or what-have-you: I'm 36, I've slowed down, I don't have it anymore,'' Owens said. "I'm a different person. I'm very talented, I keep myself in shape. So everybody can think I've slowed down. If they want to play me like that, that's fine."
The Eagles couldn't keep up with him.
Owens had three catches for 67 yards in the first half, and ran 1 yard on a reverse.
"He's as good as anyone when he gets on top of a corner,'' Palmer said. "We're going to take shots when we get opportunities."
So far, he's been the Bengals' top receiver.
Philadelphia's main goal was to get a touchdown out of its starters. In the preseason opener against Jacksonville, quarterback Kevin Kolb led the Eagles down the field on two possessions, but they had to settle for field goals.
Same thing again in Cincinnati. Six possessions, two field goals.
The Eagles kept their starting offense on the field for the entire first half and got less-than-desired results. Kolb was 11 of 17 for 126 yards, most of them in two drives at the end of the half when the Bengals began substituting. The most glaring disappointment: Philadelphia failed to score against a defense full of reserves after driving to a first-and-goal at the 7-yard line.
"We've got to be better than that,'' Eagles coach Andy Reid said. "You can't have the penalties in the red zone that we did."
Kolb was disappointed at the lack of a touchdown.
"It's the same story,'' he said. "We need to do better."
David Akers kicked field goals of 40, 25 and 48 yards. Cincinnati's Mike Nugent was short on a 59-yard attempt at the end of the first half, and Dave Rayner missed a 34-yarder. They're competing for Cincinnati's kicking job.
The Eagles are heading back to Dallas next weekend after getting blanked 24-0 by the Cowboys and squandering their chance to win the NFC East and earn a first-round bye.
The Cowboys won the division, earned the third seed and will host the Eagles in a rematch.
"We’ll be ready," a terse coach Andy Reid said after the game.
"They were a better football team all the way around, offense, defense and special teams … We have to go back to the drawing board and make sure we get things right for this next game here."
"I didn’t think it was a lack of effort. It goes back to putting the players in the right position and when they are in the right positions to make the plays. Maybe a little bit too much effort, maybe to relax a little bit."
Reid said the Eagles were going to try to "learn from their mistakes and do better the next time."
The coach was asked about going for a David Akers field goal, trailing by 17-0.
"I would like to have gotten some points there."
On the injury front, Reid said Desean Jackson tweaked his groin but was "feeling all right."
Michael Vick was again inactive with a quad strain, but Reid said he did not have any setback leading into the game.
"We had a couple of things with him this week and decided to pull back there," Reid said.
FFTOC - The Closing Rush
This is the final weekend of the FFTOC's November contest, and a number of players have favorable matchups that could help your team post big points. Here's are some of the best options at each position:
QB - The guidelines for this position were set early in the 2009 season and there was a designated list of "stud" quarterbacks and everyone else was considered a "non-stud" quarterback. Brett Favre had a sluggish start and was looking like a caretaker fantasy quarterback, so he didn't make the studs list. But Brett has been playing like one lately and should do some damage against a very shaky Seattle secondary. Carson Palmer, Eli Manning, David Garrard, and Vince Young are other non-studs worth considering. As far as the studs go, Drew Brees likely will light up the Buccaneers, Peyton Manning is Peyton Manning, and guys like Roethlisberger and Warner have easy opponents. Aaron Rodgers and Matt Schaub are also on track to perform well.
RB - If you haven't used Maurice Jones-drew yet, you are in luck as he draws Buffalo's feeble run defense. Adrian Peterson, Ray Rice, and Chris Johnson have lofty expectations and can easily exceed them, while Rashard Mendenhall and Pierre Thomas will be running against weak defenses. One-week wonders could include Kevin Smith, Bernard Scott, and Jason Snelling.
WR - The usual suspects are the top plays this week - guys like Andre Johnson, Reggie Wayne, and Larry Fitzgerald. In New England's game against the Jets in week two, Randy Moss was shut down, but the Jets were vulnerable underneath to unheralded Julian Edelman, who was playing because Wes Welker was out with an injury. Moss should do better this time around, but Welker will be playing and looks poised to have a big game. Marques Colston's been in a bit of a slump, but ought to wake up against Tampa Bay. Additionally, Hines Ward, Chad Ochocinco, and Vincent Jackson have upside for this week.
TE - Dallas Clark, Antonio Gates, and Tony Gonzalez are great plays this week as they almost always are, but if you are looking for some "sleepers" Greg Olsen, Jeremy Shockey, Heath Miller, and Kellen Winslow could deliver the goods. Vernon Davis and Brent Celek are two others to watch.
K - Stephen Gostkowski and David Akers are the top choices for this week, with Nate Kaeding, Josh Scobee, Ryan Longwell, Lawrence Tynes, and Neil Rackers right behind them.
Good luck to everyone! It's been a fun four weeks and it will be very interesting to see how the final round of the contest shakes out.
