NYG RB Devin Singletary - 2024 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Devin Singletary was a Top 10 fantasy running back from when he took hold of the Texans' starting role in Week 9 last season. The obvious upside case is that he gets the Saquon Barkley treatment. Barkley averaged 18 carries and 4 targets per game from Week 6 last year. Given a similar workload it's hard to imagine Singletary not smashing his current ADP of RB32. We have him projected as WR28.

Fantasy Downside

The downside here is being tied to Daniel Jones and a Giants offense that might not be able to provide the type of scoring upside that we want for Singletary. With the team in evaluation mode, they also may want to see what they have in Tyrone Tracy. The combination of a low-powered offense and the potential to lose work to a backfield mate makes relying on Singletary a bit risky.

2024 Bottom Line

The bottom line is that the price for Singletary is about right. There is some upside there but his price reflects the risk that comes with drafting a running back on a middling contract. In redraft, he's fine as an RB3 with some potential upside if he's given the keys to the castle.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Tennessee Titans

Devin Singletary only getting nine rushing attempts can be attributed to the game against the Browns getting a bit ugly in the second half. At one point, Cleveland was up 36-7. Houston should have much more success against Tennessee, whom Singletary carved up for 121 yards just two weeks ago. C.J. Stroud is back, so he could take some of the rushing work, but Singletary is still solidly a flex option against the Titans.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Cleveland Browns

It looks like Devin Singletary is back in control of the Texans' backfield. Singletary touched the football 30 times last week against the Titans, totaling 170 yards. A stingy Browns defense awaits in Week 16 but if Houston is going to continue giving Singletary this much work, he's worthy of an RB2 spot this week.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Tennessee Titans

Devin Singletary has three games out of the last five averaging at least five yards per carry after last week's 13-65-1 line against the Jets. He's been splitting work with Dameon Pierce since Pierce returned from injury, though Singletary saw 13 carries to Pierce's four last week. Singletary still has the slight edge but both lose some luster if C.J. Stroud isn't behind center, which likely will be the case in Week 15 after Stroud's concussion against the Jets.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at New York Jets

Well, it was fun while it lasted. With Dameon Pierce out, Devin Singletary went on a tear. Pierce has reclaimed his RB1 role. Singletary has seen just 14 rushing attempts in the last two games for 54 yards after totaling 52 carries for 262 yards in Weeks 10 and 11. Even in a good matchup against the Jets, the committee approach in Houston -- one that leans Pierce -- has relegated Singletary back to a flex-only play and probably a deep one at that.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Denver Broncos

It looks like the Texans are right back to a running back committee with Dameon Pierce returning. Devin Singletary and Pierce split the rushing attempts almost evenly, though they only combined for 11 attempts as Houston was playing a bit of catch-up against the Jaguars. The good news for Singletary is he caught six passes, so he remains the preferred option among the two, but both are back to capping the other's fantasy potential, leaving them as flex options for this week.

HOU RB Devin Singletary - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Devin Singletary has taken full control of the backfield in Houston. He has rushed 52 times in the last two weeks for 262 yards. That's a shade over five yards per carry. Even with Dameon Pierce returning, it's clear Houston needs to run Singletary moving forward. Singletary should be viewed as a solid flex option this week, even against a good Jacksonville rushing defense.
