Scouting report

by Chris Kucharski

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New York Jets
Devin Singletary had double-digit carries for the third time in four games. Last game, he ran for 67 yards and added 16 receiving yards. However, it was the fourth straight game without a touchdown. The Bills also picked up Nyheim Hines in a trade with the Colts. We don't think this will directly affect Singletary as much as the other two running backs on the depth chart.

The Jets are up next for the first of two meetings with Buffalo. New York is ranked 19th in aFPA to running backs. In the two games last season against them, Singletary rushed for 131 yards and two touchdowns. He also added 30 receiving yards as well.

Start Singletary as a low-end RB2 for Week 9. If we see a drop in carries, there could be reason for concern with Hines now on the roster, but Singletary should still be the featured back.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Green Bay Packers
Devin Singletary played 86% of the snaps last game producing 21 touches for 107 total yards. The only negative this season has been the lack of touchdowns (only 1 so far). The Bills were expected to get all three of their running backs involved, but it seems they have settled on Singletary as their every-down back.

The Bills face the Packers who are ranked 18th in aFPA to running backs. As long as Singletary keeps getting 80%+ of the snaps, his fantasy ranking will remain higher than projected in the preseason.

Start Singletary as a solid RB2 for Week 8. If he was getting in the end zone, he would probably be a high-end RB2 on a weekly basis. But he is still outperforming expectations coming into the season.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Kansas City Chiefs
Devin Singletary only had seven touches for 42 yards but that was mainly because this game was over in the third quarter and he only played 54% of the snaps. Buffalo was able to go deep easily against the Steelers so there was really no need for the running game.

Singletary will face the Chiefs next who are ranked 27th in aFPA to running backs. Last season against KC in the AFC Divisional game, he had 14 touches which produced 51 yards and a touchdown for a good fantasy outing.

The matchup is favorable this week for Singletary so we have him ranked as a low-end RB2 for Week 6. Expect him to get his regular snaps and this game to be close with plenty of offense.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Devin Singletary has surprisingly become more involved in the Buffalo offense in both the running and passing game. Most pundits thought his time would go down with Zack Moss and James Cook on the roster but he played a season-high 88% of the snaps and produced 96 total yards of offense. We will see if the trend continues but the snap count has gone up every week.

Singletary faces the Steelers this week who are ranked 12th in aFPA to running backs. The season-high carries of 11 last week is something to keep an eye on because that will keep him up higher in the rankings.

Start Singletary as a low-end RB2 for Week 5. The fact he has become an RB2 means he was a good pickup in the draft where many had him ranked as a RB3 or even a bench player.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Baltimore Ravens
Devin Singletary only rushed for 13 yards last Sunday but made it a very good fantasy day with the best receiving day of his career. He caught 9 passes for 78 yards and a touchdown. He put up RB1 numbers in PPR leagues and was a surprise contributor from that standpoint.

The Bills face the Ravens who are ranked 26th in aFPA to running backs. Singletary only has 85 rushing yards for the season and is averaging 3.5 yards per carry. He also is still splitting playing time with two other running backs.

Singletary ranks as an RB3 or Flex for Week 4. We cannot count on another career day catching the ball, but he should still get 10+ touches which is enough to warrant being in your lineup.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Miami Dolphins
Despite the prowess of the Buffalo offense, the running backs are all being used and are not a major part of the gameplan so far. Devin Singletary has played 57% of the snaps through two weeks, but he has averaged only 9 touches per game for 41.5 yards. Not much fantasy value there.

Last season, Singletary had one good outing and one poor outing against Miami. The Dolphins are ranked 9th in aFPA to running backs so far this season.

Singletary is a fringe RB3/Flex for Week 3. The running backs are far down the list in touches and why wouldn't they be with the way QB Josh Allen is throwing the football.

BUF RB Devin Singletary - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Tennessee
Devin Singletary ended up with eight carries and two receptions for a total of 62 yards from scrimmage. He is the No. 1 back in the Buffalo offense, but they are getting all three running backs involved. He played 59% of the snaps in Week 1.

Singletary faces a tough Tennessee run defense. When he faced the Titans last season, he rushed for 27 yards although he did have five receptions which helped him in PPR leagues.

Don't expect more touches for Singletary unless there is an injury. He still has some fantasy value as a low-end RB3 or flex for Week 2, but don't count on him to help your fantasy team much.
