2022 Fantasy Upside
Devin Singletary put up career-highs for rushing yards, rushing touchdowns, receptions, and total yardage from scrimmage. One of the reasons for those numbers is he really became the Bills lead back later in the season as Zack Moss lost favor with the Buffalo coaching staff. If he gets more time last season as the lead back, his fantasy numbers would have made him a solid RB2. So, the potential is there to fill that role this season.
2022 Fantasy Downside
A big red flag for Singletary was that the Bills drafted James Cook in the second round. They also brought in veteran Duke Johnson. Although, Singletary should remain the No. 1 back in the pecking order, the chances he get more carries this season significantly decreases. Singletary also had some injury issues that limited him midseason where he only had 96 rushing yards over a four-game stretch. Cook is probably the better receiving back so he could win the third-down back spot in training camp.
2022 Bottom Line
This still appears to be a running back-by-committee situation with Cook taking the spot of Moss in the pecking order. Singletary will still be the lead dog, but you don't take a running back in the second round if you don't think he can contribute right away and also be your lead back down the road. Singletary's numbers are going to go down this year and people are drafting him too high. He doesn't project as a fantasy starter and should only be taken for depth as your fourth back on your roster.
