Scouting report

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Arizona Cardinals

DK Metcalf continues to be hobbled a bit by his ongoing rib and hip injuries, but he still managed 69 yards on four catches (nine targets) last week against the Bengals. While his numbers in the past against the Cardinals haven't been great, the Cardinals don't exactly have the secondary they once did. Regardless, Metcalf sees plenty of attention from Geno Smith, per usual, and will continue to be a solid WR2 play just for his playmaking ability.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Cincinnati Bengals

DK Metcalf has taken control as the leader in the passing game overall, though he is coming off just three catches two weeks ago against the Giants. One of those catches was for a touchdown, however. He’ll continue to see plenty of targets from Geno Smith but the Bengals still sport one of the better secondaries in the NFL. Still, Metcalf is talented enough and sees enough work that he’ll continue to be a weekly WR2.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at New York Giants

Despite dealing with sore ribs, DK Metcalf still came away with 112 yards on six catches against the Panthers in their win last week. The extra day of rest should help Metcalf and he should be good to go against a Giants defense that has struggled through the first three weeks of the season. Even banged up, Metcalf continues to be an almost must-play each week in fantasy circles.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Carolina Panthers

75 yards on 6 catches is another fine performance for DK Metcalf. And he was oh so close to scoring a touchdown last week. Keep in mind, he also left the game early with a rib injury. He also missed practice Wednesday and Thursday so keep a close eye on the Friday injury report. He may and probably will still play Sunday but just keep that in mind. But if he's on the field, he's always a threat to score each week. He scored in Week 1 and almost did in Week 2.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Detroit Lions

DK Metcalf found the end zone in Week 1 (he was probably happy Jalen Ramsey is no longer with the Rams). He was tied for the team lead with 5 targets. Seattle struggled throwing the football in Week 1. They should have more success against the Lions this week. Metcalf is always a good bet to score so he’s always worth a start in fantasy.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. Los Angeles Rams

It's always about the upside with DK Metcalf. He did have an 8-127-1 line in Week 13 against the Rams last season. And remember, Jalen Ramsey is no longer in LA. Metcalf has a chance to do some damage against this Rams defense that is a bit of a mess outside of Aaron Donald. Metcalf is always a pretty safe option in fantasy. Week 1 is no different.

SEA WR DK Metcalf - 2023 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Part of Geno Smith's career year was helping DK Metcalf see some of the highest numbers he's had in the NFL. Metcalf's 141 targets and 90 receptions were career-highs and his 1,048 yards were the second-most for him in a season. He should continue to see a high number of targets and be a strong fantasy option.

Fantasy Downside
The hope this season is that Metcalf has better touchdown luck than last season. Metcalf had the most red-zone targets last season with 24 but only ended up with six touchdowns for the season. Seattle also now has a trio of receivers that can all make an impact. That could sometimes keep him from being a WR1.

2023 Bottom Line
Metcalf is still a force to be reckoned with. He's going to see a nice target share from Smith, but his touchdowns will still be volatile, as those targets could also go to Lockett or JSN. Still, Metcalf has always been a great talent and will put up points somehow. He's a solid WR2 heading into drafts.
