Fourth-year wide receiver Early Doucet has a chance to land the starting receiver spot opposite of Pro Bowler Larry Fitzgerald.

The job is his if he can perform in training camp and the preseason, while also staying healthy.

"I've been very impressed," coach Ken Whisenhunt said to The Arizona Republic. "He's in good shape, he's made some plays. We'd just like to see Early continue with that track. There's no question that when Early has been healthy and played, he's made some big plays for us."

"The guy works hard. I love Early Doucet," said Whisenhunt. "I think he's a good football player, and I hope he has an opportunity to show that this year."

Currently, receiver Andre Roberts is reportedly starting opposite of Fitzgerald, per Kent Somers of The Arizona Republic, but Somers also states the spot is still up for grabs too.

The Arizona Cardinals expressed interest in free-agent wide receivers Braylon Edwards and Malcom Floyd, who ended up signing with other teams.

Steve Breaston, one of last year's starting receivers, signed with Kansas City, prompting speculation the Cardinals would make a move to replace him.

The team did, but coaches don't seem to view the position as the serious weakness critics do.

Andre Roberts is the starter opposite Larry Fitzgerald for now, with Early Doucet pushing him. Max Komar and Stephen Williams played a little last year as rookies, and DeMarco Sampson, a seventh-round pick this year, has looked good in camp.

Fantasy Impact:

With Kevin Kolb at quarterback, whoever becomes Arizona's starter opposite Fitzgerald could be worth monitoring. The Arizona offense has gone from being a joke to being respectable.

Cardinals WR Steve Breaston is likely to end up as a free agent, and his return is cloudy. It could well depend on the level of interest Breaston has should he hit the open market. Breaston started last season as a top key target for the Cards, especially with Fitzgerald coming back from a knee injury. Then Breaston had minor knee surgery himself, and by the end of the season, his role was cut into by rookie Andre Roberts.

Roberts, in fact, came on so strong in the back half of last year, he has changed the dynamic of the wideout corps. The third-round pick struggled mightily in training camp and at the beginning of the season, but by the end showed he may indeed be the Cardinals’ future No. 2 receiver. Early Doucet has flashed every time he has played, but injuries have prevented any extended playing time – and the corresponding trust that he will be available enough.
