DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Arizona Cardinals

Tell AARP to stay away from the Witten residence. The veteran tight end has had a resurgence through the first two weeks of the season—17 receptions for 156 yards and 2 touchdowns. Although it's early, Witten seems to have become Dak Prescott's favorite target in the passing game.

The Cardinals will face Dallas on Monday and Arizona is ranked first in aFPA to tight ends. But even that factor doesn't hurt his fantasy outlook for Week 3. Most of last year, Witten was a TE2, but he has definitely earned TE1 status this season and that's where he ranks for Monday Night.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Denver Broncos

Jason Witten had a strong debut to his 2017 season. He was targeted 9 times and caught 7 passes in the Cowboys' victory. He also scored the only touchdown, which came in the red zone. If Witten becomes a regular target inside the 20, he will be one of the steals of the 2017 fantasy drafts.

Witten faces a tough matchup in Week 2 against a very good Denver defense. The whole Cowboys offense will struggle on the road this week so many of the skill players are rated lower than usual and that includes Witten.

He is rated a solid TE2 for Week 2, and if he ends up having a bigger day than expected, then Witten will be a consistent TE1 moving forward.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs. New York Giants

The ageless one will continue to be relevant in Dallas, but Jason Witten's days as a top-tier tight end are behind him. Still, he is involved enough in a very good offense and will be useful during the season based on matchups.

The Giants defense was very good last season against Dallas, and were a solid unit overall, but the tight end position is where New York was least effective, ranking 20th in aFPA to tight ends. Witten did have 13 catches in the two meetings versus the Giants last season.

With the other Cowboys skill players garnering attention, Witten will be a factor and you should treat him as a low-end TE1. Start him this week and expect some quality production.

DAL TE Jason Witten - 2017 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

Every time you think Jason Witten is irrelevant, the timeless one keeps proving everyone wrong. Witten caught 69 passes for 673 yards and 3 touchdowns. He was targeted in the red zone 16 times and played 96% of the snaps. With only one legitimate wide receiver threat in Dez Bryant, Witten is in the mix every down.

Fantasy Downside

Witten is 35 years old, which we know is old for the NFL unless you're a kicker or quarterback. He is not going repeat his 2012 numbers anytime soon either. Witten is a great story but is definitely past his prime.

2017 Bottom Line

There is no doubt Witten can still be a factor for the Cowboys. His numbers the last four seasons have been very consistent and he just signed a new four-year contract so the Cowboys have confidence in him. Witten has an ADP of 125 and is the 15th ranked tight end. He is a solid TE2 to backup your starter and a good insurance policy because he is still capable of big games.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 19, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs Green Bay
Jason Witten didn't have great numbers in 2016, especially in the touchdown department, but he was still very serviceable from a fantasy standpoint. The 69 receptions proves that.
It seems that Witten was very consistent week-to-week but just didn't have very many big weeks.

The Packers are 10th in aFPA to tight ends this season and Witten had four catches for 42 yards in an earlier meeting this season. Witten is not the best play this week, so probably should not be an option for the Divisional Playoff weekend.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 16, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs Detroit
Jason Witten was targeted 10 times and came up with 10 catches which was a season-high. Witten only had 54 receiving yards as that part of his numbers has been his biggest fantasy weakness this season. Witten still remains significant in the Cowboys offense, but his fantasy numbers overall have been limited at times.

Despite a good matchup against Detroit, who is 24th in aFPA to tight ends, Witten is a solid TE2 for Week 16. Keep him on the bench as Ezekiel Elliot and Dez Bryant are expected to have big nights.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 15, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Tampa Bay
Jason Witten started a new streak with four catches for 26 yards after not catching a pass the previous week. Although Witten has been involved in the Cowboys offense for the most part, his numbers have been lower than his career norms in both yardage and touchdowns.

Witten has a favorable matchup against Tampa, but there are many other tight ends who are better plays this week. Keep Witten on the bench.
