Scouting report

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 14, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at New York Giants
Jason Witten's consecutive game streak with a catch was stopped last week at 130 games. He did catch one ball that was called back because of a penalty, but officially had zero targets. The problem is there are too many other offensive weapons on the team, and Witten's offensive relevance in the passing game has fallen off.

He has a great matchup this week against the Giants, who are 28th in aFPA to tight ends. Witten had a good game in Week 1 against New York with nine receptions for 66 yards, but we feel it would be best to keep Witten on the bench for Week 14 as a solid TE2.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 13, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at Minnesota
Jason Witten had only three targets on Thanksgiving, and that's not good news. The veteran tight end had been averaging over eight per game over the last three games. Witten will not make many big plays down field, so quantity is what matters with him.

It's a neutral matchup against Minnesota this week, but the fact that Witten has not been as good in the past puts him on the bench for Week 13 as a solid TE2.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Washington
Jason Witten is still involved in the Cowboys offense but just not enough to put up consistently good fantasy numbers. Last week, he did catch five passes but for only 37 yards and did not score a touchdown. Against Washington in Week 2, he had three receptions for 51 yards and those numbers have been about par for him against the Redskins the past three seasons.

The matchup is favorable as the Redskins are 29th in aFPA to tight ends, but there are better options for Week 12. Witten ranks a high-end TE2. Keep him on the bench on Thanksgiving Day.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 11, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs Baltimore
Jason Witten had six catches for 59 yards last week, but his touchdown streak was stopped at two games. Witten still is a nice safety blanket for QB Dak Prescott, but his value really lies in touchdowns (which have been tough to come by).

This week's matchup against Baltimore is tough, as they are ranked seventh in aFPA to tight ends. He should still put up enough numbers to warrant a start as a low-end TE1 for Week 11.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 10, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 at Pittsburgh
Jason Witten was a beast last week against Cleveland. He had eight receptions for 134 yards and a touchdown, clearly his best game of the season and the second straight game with a touchdown. He had zero touchdowns the first six games.

So was last week the awakening of Witten? Probably more a result of matchup. This week, the he faces the Steelers who are 19th in aFPA to tight ends. We expect Witten to go back to the numbers he has been averaging which puts him on the bench as a high-end TE2 for Week 10.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Cleveland
Jason Witten only had two catches on Sunday, but one was his first touchdown of the season (and it came in overtime to beat Philadelphia). There is no doubt Witten can still make a play here and there, but for the most part, his numbers have dwindled.

Even this week against Cleveland poor pass defense, Witten is not an attractive play at tight end because of his overall numbers in 2016. Keep Witten on the bench for Week 9 as a high-end TE2.

DAL TE Jason Witten - Week 8, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs Philadelphia
It's strange to see a zero in the touchdown column on the season for Jason Witten. The veteran tight end has still been targeted an average of seven times a game, but his overall numbers this season are inferior to what he did for most of his career.

He has played decent against the Eagles in recent years, but this year's defensive unit is third in aFPA to tight ends. Considering what we have seen so far from Witten (and the matchup), he should remain on the bench for Week 8.
