Scouting report

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Seattle Seahawks

Justin Fields was OK last week, finishing with 285 pass yards and a touchdown with 25 rush yards and a fumble. It's Fields' third consecutive game with a fumble as turnovers have been a problem for him this season. Fields now has 14 turnovers in his 10 starts, and that includes Week 11 when he only played half the game. The turnovers become a problem when Fields doesn't have high production in other areas, such as his eight touchdowns in 10 starts.

Fields' rushing ability makes him an interesting option, but he's mostly been a frustrating player from a fantasy standpoint. He gets an interesting matchup this week vs. the Seahawks, who have given up the most passing yards to quarterbacks but are on the lower end of overall fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks. Fields wouldn't be a horrible option in Week 16 because of the uncertainty at the position around the league, but there are plenty of better options available.

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Minnesota Vikings

Justin Fields had one of his better performances of his rookie season last week. He threw for 224 yards (second-highest in a game), had two passing touchdowns for the first time in a game, and ran for 74 yards (second-highest in a game). Unfortunately, he also had three turnovers, but the rest is a step in the right direction. Fields also threw for a career-high 33 times, just the second time this season he's had at least 30 pass attempts in a game. He'll look to build on that success this week in a favorable matchup vs. the Vikings. Minnesota has given up the third-most average fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. With Fields' production increasing, and him having a favorable matchup, he becomes a viable streaming option in Week 15. We like him as a top 20 QB.

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 @ Green Bay Packers

Justin Fields is returning to the starting lineup in Week 14. While he is medically cleared from his rib injury, we do have to wonder if that injury will prevent him from scrambling at all this week. A lot of Fields' production as a fantasy QB has been from his rushing ability. After all, he's never thrown for more than one touchdown in a single game and is averaging 173.1 pass yards per game (not counting the week he left early) with an average of more than one turnover per game. Fittingly enough, those averages are pretty much exactly what he finished when he played the Packers (his Week 14 opponent) earlier in the year. Fields had 174 pass yards, one touchdown, an interception and 43 rush yards. We can likely expect a similar performance in Week 14, making him an unappealing option in fantasy. He's among the bottom five options when it comes to starting QBs this week.

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 11 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 vs. Baltimore Ravens

Justin Fields turned in a pair of solid games before the Bears' bye in Week 10. He threw for a career high 291 yards in Week 9 while adding 45 yards on the ground. Unfortunately Fields still has no career games with more than one pass TD and he's still averaging 173.1 pass yards per game with a 4-9 TD-to-turnover ratio. But it is nice to see some improvement from the Bears rookie. His latest performances have at least made him a viable streaming option moving forward. He should be a top 20 QB this week in an OK matchup vs. the Ravens. Baltimore is giving up the 10th-most aFPA QBs this season.

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Pittsburgh Steelers

Justin Fields was actually good last week, but that's mostly because he found success on the ground. Fields' passing stats were still about what we've seen from him so far, finishing with just 175 yards, a touchdown and an interception. But Fields added 103 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries to give him a solid fantasy performance. We haven't seen Fields take advantage of his legs as he was averaging just 21.2 rush yards per start prior to Week 8. So we'd expect him to come back down on the rush yards, leaving him with his modest pass numbers of 153 pass yards and a 3-6 TD-INT ratio in six starts.

Fields will go back to being one of the worst QB options available this week in a tough matchup vs. the Steelers, who are 8th in schedule-adjusted fantasy points allowed to quarterbacks.

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. San Francisco 49ers

Justin Fields had one of the worst fantasy performances of the season last week, finishing with 184 yards, no touchdowns, three interceptions and two lost fumbles. The only positive takeaway is that he finally started running the ball, rushing eight times for 38 yards. It's been a brutal rookie season for Fields who is averaging less than 150 pass yards per game with a 2-5 TD-INT ratio in five starts. He's also averaging four sacks a game, which adds even more pain to leagues that take off points for that. What makes last week's performance even worse is that it was supposed to be a great matchup. He gets another favorable matchup this week against the 49ers, but are you really going to trust him in your starting lineup? He's a bottom-five QB option in Week 8.

CHI QB Justin Fields - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Justin Fields had one of his better performances last week, although it still wasn't great. He finished with 174 pass yards, one touchdown and an interception. The biggest takeaway is he set a career high of 43 rushing yards on six carries. While Fields is slowly getting better, the Bears still remain a run-heavy team. Fields is only averaging 140 pass yards 17 rush yards per game with two total scores in his four starts. If there was ever a game for Fields to do well, it'd be this week against the Bucs. Tampa's pass defense has been brutalized by injuries, and their strong run defense may force the Bears to pass more than usual. And with so many QBs on bye, Fields suddenly becomes an intriguing streaming option. If you're in a pinch this week, there are certainly worse options available than Fields.
