NO WR Marques Colston - Week 5, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5: Colston vs. Bucs
Marques Colston caught just five of his 11 targets for 50 yards in the Saints' Week 4 loss to the Cowboys. Despite being targeted more than any New Orleans receiver during the game (Jimmy Graham was targeted 10 times on the night), Colston struggled to create separation and finished with two drops. He has a great matchup on Sunday vs. the Bucs but is listed as our No. 36 overall receiver for Week 5. Consider him a low-end WR3/flex option for this week.

NO WR Marques Colston - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4: Colston vs. Cowboys
Marques Colston caught just 2-of-5 targets for 25 yards but also added a touchdown in the Saints' 20-9 win over the Vikings in Week 3. That's back-to-back weeks that New Orleans' opponents made it their mission to shut down the Saints' deep passing game. This has forced Drew Brees to settle for whatever the defense gives him, which makes the offense efficient but not overly explosive. Still, Colston remains one of Brees' go-to receivers and ranks as our No. 26 overall WR for Week 4, making him a WR3 against the Cowboys on Sunday night.

NO WR Marques Colston - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3: Colston vs. Vikings
Marques Colston didn't receive a single target in the Saints' 26-24 loss to the Browns in Week 2. Cleveland used as many as seven defensive backs at one time and clearly wanted to limit the Saints' big-play ability in the passing game. The majority of Drew Brees' looks went to Jimmy Graham, who was targeted 13 times compared throughout the afternoon. The receiver with the next-most targets was Brandin Cooks, who only had six. Considering Colston had the back-breaking fumble in Week 1 that led to the Falcons' game-winning field goal, as well as being shutout in Week 2, expect Colston to have a major bounce back performance on Sunday versus the Vikings. The Saints are simply a better, more aggressive offense when at home compared to on the road. Colston ranks as our No. 23 WR for Week 3, a low-end WR2/high-end WR3 or flex option.

NO WR Marques Colston - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Colston vs. Browns
Marques Colston caught five passes for 110 yards in the Saints' Week 1 loss to the Falcons. Unfortunately he also had a crucial fumble in overtime as the Falcons recovered and wound up kicking a 52-yarder to win the game. Despite the turnover, it was a highly productive day for the trustworthy Colston, who remains a high-end WR3 in all fantasy formats. He ranks as our No. 28 overall WR for Week 2 as he has a tough matchup with Joe Haden in Cleveland.

NO WR Colston Marques - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Colston vs. Falcons
Marques Colston noted earlier this week that he feels healthier than he has in the last two years. He's only missed one game over the last two seasons but he was limited at time due to a foot injury. Now that he's completely healthy, fantasy owners should view him as a weekly WR2, especially this Sunday when the Saints take on the Falcons in what should be a shootout. He's currently listed as our No. 22 overall WR for Week 1 and is a reliable WR2 option for Sunday.

NO WR Marques Colston - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
The foot issues that plagued Marques Colston in 2013 appear to be behind him and despite a bad three-game stretch in the first half of the season, he still managed to finish as fantasy’s WR27 last year. Even though he’s not a bona fide WR1, Colston still offers plenty of value as a WR2/3 and despite suffering some nagging injuries, he's managed to play in no less than 14 games the past five seasons. He benefits from not only a great quarterback in Drew Brees and an innovative playcaller in Sean Payton, but also the presence of Jimmy Graham, who commands plenty of attention from opponents. After failing to produce a 1,000-yard season for the first time in five years, Colston is in store for a bounce back campaign.

Fantasy Downside
Colston got off to a slow start in 2013 and finished below 1,000 yards receiving for the first time since 2008. Nagging injuries have slowed him down over the past few seasons and at 31, there’s a chance that he could be in store for a decline. The addition of rookie Brandin Cooks could also cut into Colston’s targets, although there was still enough looks to go around last year when Darren Sproles was still in the mix.

Bottom Line
All the reports coming out of New Orleans suggest that Colston is healthy and the foot issues that bothered him at the start of last season are behind him. Thus, he’s a value as a WR2/3 at his current ADP of the seventh-round. He still plays in one of fantasy’s best offenses and before his WR27 finish last year, he posted four-straight top 20 finishes at his position. We’d be surprised if he didn’t rack up his seventh 1,000-yard season of his nine-year career.
