Scouting report

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 18, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wildcard Weekend – Michael Floyd vs. Carolina

Michael Floyd closed out a very disappointing season with a fantastic outing against the 49ers last week, catching eight of the 12 balls thrown his way for 153 yards and two touchdowns. His ability to provide a deep threat for third string quarterback Ryan Lindley helped the Cardinals stay in the game, even though they didn’t win in the end.

This week, Floyd will go up against a Panthers defense that has struggled on the back end but still finished 11th in the league this year in passing yards allowed. Floyd was way too inconsistent this year to get too excited about entering the playoffs, but there’s at least a little hope that Lindley will improve enough to keep targeting the former first round pick out of Notre Dame. We have him just outside our top ten this week, with big time risk/reward potential.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 – Michael Floyd vs. San Francisco

Michael Floyd had two receptions for 41 yards, but was targeted eight times, last week against a tough Seahawks defense. He’s been a disappointment this season, and there’s very little to be hopeful about as he enters a Week 17 matchup against San Francisco’s 7th ranked pass defense.

Complicating matters is the starting quarterback position in Arizona. Floyd isn't helped by the horrible outing Ryan Lindley had last week, and it's unlikely he'll find much more success this week against San Francisco. Floyd is a nice deep threat, so there’s some upside there, but overall Floyd is far too risky to bank on. Fantasy owners should probably just stay away from the entire Cardinals offense.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 – Michael Floyd vs. Seattle
Michael Floyd had only two catches against the Rams last week, but did end up with 55 yards thanks to a 49 yard reception that was the longest play from scrimmage in the game. Floyd has been so inconsistent this season, and now his quarterback issues have been magnified with backup QB Drew Stanton going down with an injury. Ryan Lindley will get the start, which doesn’t bode well for an already struggling passing game. Fantasy owners should leave Floyd on the bench.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 – Michael Floyd vs. St. Louis

Michael Floyd came back to life a little last week against the Chiefs. He was targeted seven times, and he caught four passes for 85 yards. It’s nice to see the Cardinals using the former first round pick a little more frequently, but it’s hard to bank on that happening week after week with such a spotty record this year.

Floyd has a nice matchup against the Rams, but his track record this season keep him outside our top 40 rankings this week and into desperation territory or in the deep league low end WR3 area. I’d look away from the Cardinals this week across the board.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 – Michael Floyd vs. Kansas City
Michael Floyd had five catches and 53 yards last week, but his 10 targets bodes well for fantasy owners who fear that his role in the offense has diminished irrevocably. Still, this week he faces the league’s top defense in passing yards allowed per game, and the Chiefs should be a tough matchup for a Cardinals passing game that struggled against one of the worst defenses a week ago. Floyd has some deep league upside, but he’s way too risky to count on after so many disappearing acts this season, and fantasy owners would be better off looking elsewhere.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 – Michael Floyd vs. Atlanta

Michael Floyd failed to catch a pass last week, and it’s baffling as to why he’s struggled so badly this season after a 2013 season that showed so much promise. He was only targeted twice last week, compared to five and six targets for John and Jaron Brown, respectively.

This week, there’s some upside with Floyd, as the Falcons have given up more yards per game through the air than anyone else in the league. However, it’s risky to bank on a guy who has disappeared so frequently this season, and Floyd should ultimately be considered a risky WR3 option at best in most leagues.

ARI WR Michael Floyd - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 – Michael Floyd vs. Seattle

Michael Floyd only caught two of the five passes thrown his way last week against Detroit, but they were both touchdowns, and he wound up with 54 yards and a pair of scores on the day. That’s pretty flukey production to count on, and he has a tough matchup against the Seattle Seahawks this week.

While Floyd has the potential and talent to produce big numbers, he has been frustratingly inconsistent and disappointing this year so far and with a tough matchup against the league’s third best pass defense in terms of yards allowed per game, it’s hard to recommend starting the former first round pick out of Notre Dame.
