Michael Thomas dealing with "a little of a hamstring" issue

Saints WR Michael Thomas missed Sunday's practice with a hamstring injury.

Fantasy Impact: 

HC Dennis Allen called it "a little bit of a hamstring issue", but it's still a little concerning any time we hear about an injury with Thomas, who missed all of 2021 with an ankle injury. He has been able to practice but has not played in a game at all yet this preseason and you probably can assume he will not play in the final preseason game against the Chargers. We are three weeks away from the Saints' regular-season opener against the Falcons. Thomas has holding an ADP of about 55, going off as WR27 on Underdog. Jarvis Landry and rookie Chris Olave would take on more work if Thomas misses any time.

Fantasy Impact: 

The now 29-year-old Thomas continues to rehab the injured ankle that forced him to miss the entire 2021 season and most of the previous season. Beat writer Nick Underhill says that in camp Thomas looks like he did in 2019. Drafting Thomas requires a leap of faith, but he’s going off the board as the WR29 in the sixth round, which seems like a steal for a player who racked up 149 catches for 1,725 yards and nine touchdowns as recently as 2019. However, he also carries a lot of risk since he hasn’t played football since December of 2020 and is getting a little long in the tooth.

Saints WR Michael Thomas took part in team drills Saturday for the first time this year.

Fantasy Impact: 

It's been a long time coming for the Saints wide receiver, who didn't play at all in 2021 and a good portion of 2020 with an ankle injury. But Thomas finally looks like he's ready to get back into action and had a catch on his first play of 11-on-11. The Saints have been gradually increasing Thomas' workload and there are still about four weeks until New Orleans' opener September 11 against the Falcons. Thomas is WR31 on Underdog with an ADP of 65. If healthy, Thomas could get back to his old ways. It already seems like Jameis Winston will trust Thomas quite a bit this season, so keep an eye on Thomas the rest of the preseason.

Rapoport reiterated that he looks "aweseome" which coincides with what Saints reporter Nick Underhill has been repeating through camp thus far.

Fantasy Impact: 

So much for getting Michael Thomas in the 7th/8th round anymore. Thomas has likely been a steal throughout all of spring and summer, and if he truly is back to his old self, he will help buoy this entire offense. The last time Jameis Winston had two reliable wide receivers and the offense all to himself (2019) he threw for 5,000+ yards on his way to finishing as the overall QB2.
