Scouting report

DEN TE Noah Fant - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Tennessee Titans
It was another quiet game for Noah Fant last Sunday versus the Chargers. On just one look from Joe Flacco, he finished with a six-yard reception. The rookie has had more than three grabs in a game only once and is averaging 27 receiving yards per outing. While he scored two weeks ago at home, Fant remains a TE2 option.

DEN TE Noah Fant - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Los Angeles Chargers
In the heartbreaking loss to Jacksonville last Sunday, Noah Fant caught only two passes for 31 yards but scored his first NFL touchdown. The 25-yard TD came in the first quarter on a screen that took some time to develop and required a couple of Jaguar missed tackles. In his first month as a pro, Fant has recorded at least two receptions in each outing, totaling 11 grabs for 130 yards. The Broncos figure to be playing from behind in most of their games, which likely means more passing plays. However, the rookie is a risky fantasy start.

DEN TE Noah Fant - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars
The Packers limited Joe Flacco to 213 yards last week, with Noah Fant snagging three passes for 37 yards. The rookie also lost a fumble. In his first three contests, Fant has made the most of his 11 targets, netting nine receptions but for just 99 yards. Keep Fant on your bench at home versus the Jaguars.

DEN TE Noah Fant - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Green Bay Packers
In his first two NFL games, Noah Fant has totaled six catches for 62 yards. In the loss to Chicago last Sunday, Joe Flacco threw 50 passes, with only four going in the direction of the rookie. Fellow TE Jeff Heuerman also finished the contest versus the Bears with four receptions, but none of the Denver pass catchers have done much outside of the starting WRs. This looks like another week Fant should remain on your bench.

DEN TE Noah Fant - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears
In the rookie’s first game last Monday at Oakland he received five targets from Joe Flacco, resulting in two receptions for 29 yards. Noah Fant will be an important part of the Denver passing attack, but it may take a few more games for that to happen. For now, it’s probably better Fant stays on your bench, especially versus a strong Chicago defense.

DEN TE Noah Fant - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Oakland Raiders
After catching five passes for 28 yards during the preseason, Noah Fant will get his first regular season action on Monday against the rival Raiders. While he still appears to be adapting to the NFL, Fant has great athleticism and should be considered an oversized WR. Rookie TEs tend to struggle, so temper expectations in his first professional contest.

DEN TE Noah Fant - 2019 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Drafted No. 20 overall, Noah Fant should immediately be an important part of the Broncos passing attack. In his final two seasons at Iowa, he grabbed 69 passes for 1,013 yards and 18 TDs, while sharing the spotlight with fellow TE and first-round pick T.J. Hockenson. Fant has good speed, soft hands, and, at 6’4” and 250 pounds, will become one of Joe Flacco’s favorite targets.

Fantasy Downside
Rookie TEs usually take some time to adjust to the NFL game. Since ’00, first-round TEs have averaged 38 receptions for 429 yards and three TDs per 16 games – not exactly earth-shattering. While he’s expected to be the starter, Denver also has Jeff Heuerman and Jake Butt in the TE mix.

2018 Bottom Line
A Broncos tight end hasn’t recorded a 100-yard game since 2016, but Fant has a chance to end that streak at some point this year. While the rookie makes for a great keeper league addition, temper expectations a bit, especially with the crowd at the TE position. Fant may be the main player in the role, but it may not be until the second half of the season.
