Followed up on this and Matt Rhule said "I certainly anticipate'' Cam Newton will be the starter against the Falcons.

David Newton first tweeted Rhule didn't want to get into the game plan for Atlanta in terms of how he will use Newton and Walker. He did remind everyone at the press conference Walker is 2-0 as a starter, the tweet added. While Rhule said Cam Newton will start, it sounds possible Walker may have some kind of role as well. Cam struggled and was pulled when we last saw him in Week 12 so this situation is a bit of a mess at least in terms of fantasy values.

Panthers QB Sam Darnold has resumed throwing

Sam Darnold is closing in on the short end of that recovery window and Matt Rhule said that he has resumed throwing on the side. The Panthers have a bye this week and Rhule said they’ll evaluate Darnold once they’re back from the time off.

“We’ll get him back next week, see where he’s at in his process and go from there,” Rhule said, via Joseph Person of TheAthletic.com, from the story. As we posted earlier, the Panthers have committed to starting Newton against the Falcons in Week 14 and Newton hopes to have a fuller grasp of the offense for that outing. If that doesn’t happen, Darnold could find his way back into consideration as the Panthers start to look toward the quarterback decisions they’ll have to make before the 2022 season, according to the story.

"Yeah, I'm not making any changes or anything like that right now. The other day we weren't protecting the quarterback worthwhile at all. Didn't seem fair to keep Cam Newton in there getting hit," HC Matt Rhule said.

The Panthers have a bye in Week 13 but expect to come back in Week 14 with Newton under center. Rhule said it was more of a chance to protect Newton but also get Walker some playing time.

After two days of testing, exams revealed that Panthers QB Sam Darnold has a fractured scapula, sources say.

Fantasy Impact: 

The right shoulder injury will most likely lead to Darnold missing several weeks. Walker, his backup, will step in. Some who follow the team were saying it was time for the Panthers to bench Darnold. However, they also admitted Walker is likely not the answer either. At this point, Walker could be showcasing for the rest of this season even when Darnold is able to return. Walker is worth grabbing in deeper, two-QB and superflex leagues.
