WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 - Garcon vs. NY Giants

Pierre Garcon had a big day in a shootout against the Eagles last week. He caught 11 balls for 138 yards and a TD and was targeted 16 times, all of which are highs for the young season.

This week, Garcon gets another good matchup which looked tougher a few weeks ago. The Skins host the Giants on Thursday night and Big Blue now ranks 23rd in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Garcon is a borderline WR1 play this week, ranked 10th on our list of WRs. Either way, he should be in store for another productive fantasy game and should be in lineups.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 - Garcon vs. Philadelphia
Pierre Garcon had just one catch for 12 yards on just four targets. Very unlikely numbers for a guy who has averaged double-digit targets over the recent past.

A blowout win played a big part in his lack of numbers, but this week Garcon should bounce back in a friendly matchup against the Eagles who are 31st in allowing fantasy points to WRs. While DeSean Jackson should play, he may not be 100-percent which could get Garcon a few more looks. Garcon shouldn't take too much of a hit even with Kirk Cousins now the QB. We consider him a solid WR2 option this week.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Jaguars
Pierre Garcon saw 12 targets making 10 catches for 77 yards. He continues to get looks from QB Robert Griffin III as Garcon led the league in targets last season.

This week, the Skins get the Jags at home. Jacksonville ranks 22nd in allowing fantasy points to WRs so it's a good matchup for Garcon owners. The only problem is RGIII continues to struggle and a lot of his passes last week were of the short variety. Garcon is usually a little safer but this week in a good matchup he's a mid-WR2 ranked 16th. He should be in lineups, but maybe temper expectations.

Garcon also has three tough matchups against the top-three defense in terms of fantasy points against for WRs. Those take place Weeks 4, 5 and 7.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Texans
Pierre Garcon led the league in targets last year and while he should be up there again this season, there are a few things working against him. One is DeSean Jackson on the other side, but perhaps more important is the struggles of QB Robert Griffin III who hasn't looked good in camp or the preseason.

Garcon's ranking takes a bit of a hit this week as a result as he's listed 25th on our list which makes him a middle-of-the-road WR3. It's a tough matchup and he'll likely see a lot of Johnathan Joseph. The Texans D is pretty solid and ranks 11th in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Garcon should probably still be in your lineup but may be best to temper expectations a bit.

WAS WR Pierre Garcon - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

FANTASY UPSIDE
Despite QB issues last season, Pierre Garcon led the league in targets with 188. It’s very possible the addition of DeSean Jackson and his speed will open things up a bit more for Garcon this season. Factor in a healthy Robert Griffin III at QB, and a new coach in Jay Gruden who is known for throwing the ball, and the upside for Garcon is definitely there again this season.

FANTASY DOWNSIDE
We don’t think he draws 188 targets this year, and that means a likely drop in catches and yards because of Jackson on the other side. Also, TE Jordan Reed is back healthy and will also draw targets and catches away from Garcon. Andrew Roberts was also signed, so there are a lot of mouths to feed in the Washington offense.

BOTTOM LINE
We rank Garcon 14th among WRs. We still see him for 88 balls and 1,116 yards this season, which makes him a quality WR2 in just about any format. His ADP is 4.05 in 10-team leagues, and that’s a few spots lower than some guys ranked around him like: Andre Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, Michael Floyd and Vincent Jackson. I’m not sure I’d reach to get Garcon just because those are some pretty quality names to pass on in the same area of the draft.
