Quite plainly, Chargers WR Robert Meachem looked as if his confidence is still fractured and his game is still missing. He looked lost in Norv Turner's offense, and he looks lost in Ken Whisenhunt's offense.

Meachem says his health is “blessed,” and he did miss just one game last year and has been in every practice this camp.

However, one person familiar with the situation said emphatically that Meachem is “broken down," that his body simply isn’t what it was.

Drew Brees revealed how well fifth-rounder Kenny Stills has filled in for the injured Joe Morgan since Morgan got hurt during Saturday's scrimmage. Stills has been running with the first team and practice and the Saints feel like he has progressed.

Stills is not a tall, speedy receiver like the 6-foot-1 Morgan, but Brees said the rookie is starting to catch on -- pardon the pun.

Fantasy Impact:

Stills ran a 4.38 40-yard dash is only one inch shorter than Morgan, so he's built in the same mold as the Saints' deep threat receivers (Devery Henderson, Robert Meachem, Morgan) before him. Those players were always boom-or-bust plays due to the inconsistency of the deep game.

Danario Alexander tears ACL

The San Diego Chargers have lost wide receiver Danario Alexander potentially for the season with a torn right ACL, a source said.

Alexander, who tore his left ACL three times in college at Missouri, has had a history of knee problem.

Fantasy Impact:

Alexander emerged as a very good fantasy player last season, catching 37 passes for 658 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games overall. Over that span he posted #6 WR numbers, and this year we had him ranked as a solid WR3. Vincent Brown and Malcom Floyd will both get a bump in value, but even Brown just recently returned to practice. Also, the Bolts are supposed to simplify things this year, running more with Ryan Mathews, Danny Woodhead and Ronnie Brown, and getting the ball quicker out of QB Philip Rivers' hand. We have Keenan Allen next up on the depth chart followed by Eddie Royal and Robert Meachem, who were both very disappointing last season. At TE, Antonio Gates figures to see a few more targets as well. This is a big blow to Philip Rivers.

Browns OC Norv Turner on what he gleaned from watching tape of QB Brandon Weeden: “I saw a young guy that I think now and I thought then has a real positive upside and when I look at him on tape, I haven’t spent any time with him, but when I look at the tape I see a guy who can be a really good player. I think a lot of playing quarterback has to do with the people you have around you and getting those guys playing at a high level. People may think it’s being unfair to Brandon to say ‘well they’re being cool about it.’ I think it’s being fair to him to say ‘hey we have a young guy that has some talent and we’re going to find out about him.’ We’re going to coach him and do everything we can to make him the best player he can be and let’s see where it goes. He’s going to have an opportunity to go compete, play and grow and I’m excited to be working with him.”

Keep in mind that Turner was the one raving about WR Robert Meachem and we all know how that turned out.
