Scouting report

BAL WR Sammy Watkins - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Las Vegas Raiders

Watkins has always been a better theoretical fantasy option than an actual one. He’s now 28 years old and on his fourth team, entering an offense that hasn’t produced a steady fantasy receiver in the Lamar Jackson era. He should start, at least for the first part of the season, but it’s hard to imagine the offense sustaining him as a viable option in any format. Take a wait-and-see approach with Watkins, and he should probably be on waivers in most leagues.

KC WR Sammy Watkins - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Atlanta Falcons

Sammy Watkins finished 4-60 on six targets last week. It's his third-highest yardage output of the season and just the fourth time he's topped 50 yards in a game. Watkins is OK, but he hasn't scored since Week 5 and is averaging 3.5 for 46.3 since returning from injury. He's not much more than a WR5 with a low ceiling.

KC WR Sammy Watkins - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at New Orleans Saints

Sammy Watkins finished 2-52 on three targets last week. As we've mentioned before, the Chiefs utilize Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce on a weekly basis, and then the rest of the offense picks up the scraps. Every now and then there are enough scraps to make the players worthwhile, but often times there isn't. Watkins is the best bet out of the other Chiefs WRs, but he's not much more than a WR5. He'll get a tough matchup against the Saints, who have allowed the third-fewest receptions to WRs this season.

KC WR Sammy Watkins - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 at Miami Dolphins

Sammy Watkins finished 4-35 on six targets last week. Outside of Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce, it's hard to find a reliable option in this Chiefs offense for fantasy purposes. Players like Watkins, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson all have their moments, but none can be truly trusted on a week-to-week basis. Watkins is your best bet, but he's only averaging 4.1 receptions for 42.1 yards this season. That's not awful, but it only makes Watkins a low-end WR4 play.

KC WR Sammy Watkins - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. Denver Broncos

Sammy Watkins made his return last week, and finished 4-38 on seven targets. His seven targets were third on the team, behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. But Mecole Hardman (5 targets) and Demarcus Robinson (6 targets) were heavily involved as well. In the four games where Watkins played 70% of the snaps or more this season, he's seeing 7.75 targets, which is nice. But Watkins has struggled to turn those targets into actual catches in his last two healthy games. Watkins offers appeal as a low-end WR4 this week against the Broncos.

KC WR Sammy Watkins - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Sammy Watkins was out last week, but is expected to return in Week 12 after getting in full practice sessions. Watkins had some appeal before his injury, averaging 4.2-44.4-0.4 in the five games he was active. That's about what we're projecting for Watkins in his return against the Bucs. It's tough to trust any Chiefs receiver in this offense behind Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Those two are guarantees each week, with Watkins, Mecole Hardman and Demarcus Robinson picking up the rest of the yards. Watkins should be viewed as a boom-or-bust WR5 in Week 12.

KC WR Sammy Watkins - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. Las Vegas Raiders

Sammy Watkins finished 4-43-0 last week, and added in a fumble for a disappointing game. However, Watkins did have seven targets and he's now seen 7+ targets in three of his four games. The only game he didn't see more targets is the game he left early due to injury. Watkins plays with the rest of the Chiefs starters and gets plenty of looks in each matchup. He's not a star, but he's a decent WR3/WR4 play. He faces the Raiders in Week 5, who are 13th in aFPA to wide receievers.
