PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs Broncos

Najee Harris easily played his fewest percentage of snaps in a game last week, but still played 80 percent of the snaps. Even with the fewer snaps, he still dominated the backfield, getting 15 carries to just one for Benny Snell. Harris is the workhorse and a weekly RB1 option as a result. But he does face a tough matchup this week. Denver comes in with a top-five rushing defense, allowing just 70 yards per game, though we all saw what happened against the Ravens, especially at the end of the game. Regardless, Harris is still a play in fantasy leagues until further notice.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Packers

If there's one constant in the Steelers' offense, it's been Najee Harris. Out of a possible 197 offensive snaps, Harris has played 190 snaps. And he's coming off a 14-catch, 102-yard performance against the Bengals. The Steelers are really working Harris and he comes in as a top-five back this week.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs Bengals

Najee Harris scored his first NFL touchdown in Week 2 and once again saw a ton of time on the field. He has played 111 out of a possible 114 snaps for the Steelers through two weeks. The plan seems so far to get Harris around 15 or so touches and he got more use in the passing game in Week 2, catches five passes. Just his usage alone makes him a strong fantasy option and will get better as the Steelers figure out their offense and work out the kinks (and their offensive line improves).

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs Raiders

You're understandably upset that your second-round running back had just 49 total yards in Week 1. It's only Week 1. The silver lining to take from his Week 1 outing is that he saw 16 carries and played every single offensive snap. Pittsburgh is going to use Harris and he will get his. Vegas allowed two rushing scores to Josh Jacobs in Week 1, so Harris has a good chance at finding the end zone in Week 2 in Pittsburgh's home opener.

PIT RB Najee Harris - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Bills

The Steelers are finally ready to get a ground attack going again as Najee Harris makes his NFL debut against the Bills. For as good as Buffalo was in 2020, one spot where they weren't great was against the run, ranking 20th in the league in rush defense. And having the outside weapons Pittsburgh does makes it difficult to be able to focus on Harris in the backfield. He cracks the RB1 group in our half-PPR rankings this week, coming in at No. 11. You spent a high pick on Harris, you're going to use him early on.

PIT RB Najee Harris - 2021 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside

If there was one strong landing spot for Najee Harris in the NFL Draft, it was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Everybody and their mother mocked Harris to the Steelers in the first round. The Steelers ultimately agreed and took Harris with the 24th pick and now Harris has a chance to be the workhorse the Steelers so badly needed. The only way to go is up for the Steelers' rushing attack, which ranked dead last in 2020 at just 82.5 rushing yards per game. Harris immediately gives the Steelers an uptick in production on the ground.

Fantasy Downside

If there is one downside right now to Harris' fantasy projection, it's the question marks in front of him. Gone are Alejandro Villanueva, David DeCastro and Maurkice Pouncey. It's possible a rookie in Kendrick Green takes over at center, Chukwuma Okorafor and Zach Banner will be the tackles and Kevin Dotson and new addition Trai Turner will be the guards. How the offensive line plays could determine the ceiling for Harris.

2021 Bottom Line

Regardless of the offensive line outlook, the talent of Najee Harris will help mask some of those issues, and is why he is always being drafted in the second round of leagues as a potential RB1 and a sure-fire RB2 to start. Not many backs can be listed 6'2", 230 pounds and move the way Harris does. He'll also look really nice in new offensive coordinator Matt Canada's offense.
