Scouting report

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Arizona Cardinals

Elijah Mitchell missed the last two weeks with injury, and is not certain to start this week either. Even if he does start, however, fantasy managers should take a wait-and-see approach to him. Trey Sermon has looked pretty good in relief, and he faces a tough Cardinals defense that ranks 11th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Don’t drop him just yet, but I wouldn’t trust him in lineups.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Seattle Seahawks

Elijah Mitchell missed last week, and his status for Week 4 is in question, so monitor the injury reports leading up to game time. If he starts, he has RB2 potential against a struggling Seahawks defense that ranks dead last in aFPA to opposing running backs and just allowed a big day to Alexander Mattison on the ground. Be ready with a backup play though, in case Mitchell can’t go.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Green Bay Packers

Elijah Mitchell had 17 carries for 42 yards before leaving the game with a shoulder injury last week, leaving his status for next week in question. If he plays, fantasy managers should assume he’ll get a decent enough workload after being the primary ball carrier two weeks in a row, but keep a very, very close eye on the injury report. The Packers have struggled defensively thus far this season but seemed to put it together in the second half of the Monday night game against Detroit, so we’ll call the matchup a wash. Watch that injury report. Very. Very. Closely. RB2 potential if he’s able to go.

SF RB Elijah Mitchell - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Philadelphia Eagles

Elijah Mitchell had 19 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown in Week 1 against the Lions. Mitchell benefitted from Raheem Mostert leaving the game with an injury, which led to Mostert deciding to have season-ending surgery, and he looks like he’ll be the starter moving forward. It was an unexpected surprise to see fellow rookie Trey Sermon a healthy scratch for Week 1, but Mitchell delivered.

Should be a tougher road ahead of him this week against the Eagles, who ranked eighth in aFPA to opposing running backs last season and held Mike Davis to 3.3 yards per carry in Week 1. With a likely strong workload ahead of him, we have Mitchell ranked as a low-end RB2 in a tough matchup.
