Scouting report

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 at Detroit Lions
DeVonta Smith was brought in to solve the receiver problem and had a solid rookie season. However, the Eagles brought in A.J. Brown to take some pressure off Smith who will now handle the No. 2 spot for Philly.

Smith will face Detroit who was ranked 14th in aFPA to wide receivers in 2021. Against the Lions last season, he had only one catch for 15 yards.

The second-year receiver does have some value for Week 1 as a low-end WR3 or Flex. Smith could have some big games this season but this one will have him putting up average numbers.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
DeVonta Smith had a solid rookie season with 64 receptions for 916 yards and 5 touchdowns. The Eagles definitely feel he can be an impact player in their offense. They especially like his ability to stretch the field and hope he can be a deep threat for QB Jalen Hurts.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Philadelphia threw the ball less than any NFL team last season. They rely on their running game by both Hurts and their running backs. That limits the amount of opportunities the Eagles receivers have. And although Philly might have drafted Smith thinking possible No. 1 receiver, that has changed with the acquisition of A.J. Brown.

2022 Bottom Line
Smith is clearly the No.2 receiver for the Eagles. This pushes him down the overall rankings and on your fantasy team he should probably be your fourth receiver. He is getting drafted as high as the 7th round but if you can grab him a round or two later, you will get better value.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Washington
DeVonta Smith caught seven passes for 80 yards and a touchdown last week after having a slump over the past several weeks. Smith is still the best option at receiver for the Eagles and should get the targets in the passing game this week against Washington who is ranked 26th in aFPA to wide receivers.

Smith was limited to five catches for 40 yards in the first meeting with the WFT, but we expect better numbers this time around. Start Smith as a low-end WR2 for Week 17 as the Eagles' passing game should have a good afternoon.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. New York Giants
Over the last three games, DeVonta Smith only has seven receptions for 77 yards. He has not made big plays over the last month as the Eagles' passing game has struggled. However, he still remains their No. 1 wide receiver option.

The Giants are up next and shut down Philly in the first meeting. New York ranks 11th in aFPA to wide receivers. It seems that Smith has suffered a little bit of a slump in his rookie year and we don't like the matchup. Keep him on the bench for Week 16.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Washington
DeVonta Smith has been quiet the past couple of games, with four catches for 37 yards. He also has gone three straight games without a touchdown. Part of the issue is the Eagles' passing game has been limited by the offensive strategy and the dominant running game. So don't give up on Smith at this point.

Smith will face Washington who is ranked 22nd in aFPA to wide receivers. With COVID-19 affecting many players in the league including WFT members, this could be an opportunity for Smith and the Philly passing game to get on track. Start him but be cautious with expectations for Week 15. He ranks as a solid WR3 or flex.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 at New York Jets
DeVonta Smith is not getting numbers because the Eagles aren't throwing the ball with much success. Last week, he had four catches for 22 yards while the Eagles had only 129 passing yards.

Smith has the talent but the Eagles' offense is limiting him. He will face the Jets who are ranked 30th in aFPA to wide receivers. Even with the favorable matchup, Smith only ranks a WR3 or flex for Week 13. Until QB Jalen Hurts gets his act together, his fantasy numbers will continue to be suppressed.

PHI WR DeVonta Smith - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at New York Giants
The Philadelphia passing game has been quiet but DeVonta Smith still has been making noise. Smith has a minimum of 60 yards in each of the last three games and three touchdowns as well. Smith will also see 6 targets a game so that has allowed him to produce fantasy numbers.

Smith faces the Giants who are ranked 17th in aFPA to wide receivers. Even though the Eagles have been run-heavy over the past month, Smith has become the go-to guy in the passing game.

Start Smith as a high-end WR3 or flex for Week 12. We expect the stat floor to be that 6 targets and 60 receiving yards and a touchdown as well.
