Sneaky Starts: Week 2
All but the luckiest fantasy owners at some point need to find the proverbial diamond in the rough -- a waiver wire or bench player who is capable of putting up some points in a pinch. This weekly feature is dedicated to that part of fantasy football. It's not pretty, but it's part of the game.
How did our Sneaky Starts do last week? There were a few duds, but Carson Palmer (QB4), Mark Ingram (RB9), Darren Sproles (RB10), Chris Ivory (RB16), Pierre Thomas (RB19), Carlos Hyde (RB29), Fred Jackson (RB31), Benny Cunningham (RB34), Allen Hurns (WR2), Brandin Cooks (WR6), Anquan Boldin (WR16), Markus Wheaton (WR29) and Antonio Gates (TE10) all finished with starter- or flex-caliber numbers in Week 1.
Let’s take a look at the Sneaky Starts for Week 2:
Quarterbacks
Bengals QB Andy Dalton (vs. ATL)
Dalton was the #4 QB in 2013 and produced 301 passing yards and a (fluke) TD against the Ravens in Week 1. Things should be easier in Week 2 against a very shaky Falcons pass defense.
Titans QB Jake Locker (vs. DAL)
The Cowboys are bad defensively. We know this. And Locker looked pretty good in Week 1, throwing for 266 yards and two TDs against a fairly stingy Chiefs defense.
Chiefs QB Alex Smith (@ DEN)
Speaking of the Chiefs, Smith was pretty bad against the Titans in Week 1 (202 yards, TD, 3 INT), but should be throwing the ball a lot against the Broncos who are likely to jump out to an early lead.
Cardinals QB Carson Palmer (@ NYG)
Palmer was a Sneaky Start last week and he didn’t disappoint, racking up 304 passing yards and two TDs against the Chargers on Monday night. He’s battling some shoulder soreness, but should be fine to face the struggling Giants.
Dolphins QB Ryan Tannehill (@ BUF)
Tannehill only threw for 178 yards against the Patriots in Week 1, but had two TD passes to make up for it. The Bills yielded 28 pass TDs in 2013.
