Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 13 Targets

Oh, boy! Colin Kaepernick, our optimal streaming pick last week, finished as the QB1 in most formats, top-three in nearly every format. In case you needed a reminder, quarterback fantasy scoring often has little-to-nothing to do with NFL talent or success. Target guys with upside, and pray for magic. Now, we find ourselves a few short days away from the fantasy playoffs, so every streaming pick counts. Let’s keep the hot streak going into Week 13.

On the season, our optimal streaming QB is scoring 23.87 points per game, good enough for QB7 overall. Our streaming choices have averaged 19.14 points through twelve weeks. That would be QB19.

As always, I focus on QB points per game and the Vegas implied team totals to determine good QB streamers, then I add in their matchup for the week. For opposing defenses, we utilize Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points allowed (aFPA).

Week 13 QB Streaming Targets

Colin Kaepernick (SF) @ CHI

Why quit on a good thing? Colin Kaepernick’s last four fantasy weeks have looked like this: 26.2, 25.9, 23.4, and 39.1 fantasy points. C’mon, folks. This may be the last week he stays under 40% ownership before waivers run, so you better believe I’ll continue to ride him. This week he faces a Chicago defense giving up 15.8 aFPA to opposing QBs, and Vegas gives the 49ers an implied team total of 20.5 points.

Kaepernick is available in 77.3% of ESPN public leagues, and he is my optimal QB streamer of the week.

Matt Barkley (CHI) vs. SF

That’s right: I’m taking both sides of this ugly nightmare of a football game. Matt Barkley is like Colin Kaepernick in one important way: I don’t think he’s a good NFL quarterback, but he has proven fantasy potential in limited action this year. The 49ers are dreadful against the pass, giving up 20.0 aFPA to opposing QBs this year, and Vegas slots the Bears for 23 implied team points. Barkley’s risky, but he just threw 54 times last week. I’ll give it a shot.
