2021 BMW Championship Betting Card Preview

The FedEx Cup Playoffs continue this week in Maryland at Caves Valley Golf Club for the BMW Championship. It's a new course on the PGA Tour, which adds another layer of complexity when attempting to handicap this tournament.

The BMW Championship is a small-field, no-cut event at a course we've never seen before. I've got to be honest, folks, this is not my favorite situation. It's like that episode of Parks and Rec where Ann, who has a tendency to take on the interests of whoever she's dating that week, comes to the Parks office in a rodeo-style cowgirl shirt. She's greeted by Donna, who'll always shoot you straight. "It's not my favorite shirt, but it is my least favorite shirt."

Tournaments at new courses aren't my favorite thing to handicap, but...

Caves Valley is a lengthy 7,542-yard par 72 layout, with small bentgrass greens. According to the official scorecard, it sets up to be a bombers paradise, where distance should reign. Four long Par-5's accessible to the longest hitters, along with three Par-4's that are drivable depending on wind and pin placement that round. Ron Klos dug around and found a quote from the Director of Instruction at the Caves Valley, Bernie Najar. Najar said, "It's going to be a shootout, so you're going to have to take some risks out there. I think it's going to be someone, in my opinion, that hits it plenty far."
