Week 5 Betting Picks: Against The Spread
With close to a quarter of the season in the books, I have had a lack of success on the betting side of things thus far. I can tell you, this is not new. I have been unable to pinpoint the reasons in previous seasons, but I always start slow. The good news is my most difficult part of the season is in the rearview mirror with not very many units to chase down.
Last week was my second consecutive 1-2 week. We won on the Football Team and lost on the Lions and Titans. There was a variable in the Lions vs. Bears game that could not be accounted for early in the week. Bill Lazor once again took over play-calling duties from Matt Nagy, and the Bears were once again much better for it. The offense looked competent despite Justin Fields being under center. They were able to get some early points on the board and the Lions never quite recovered. They also inexplicably used Jamaal Williams over D'Andre Swift, which certainly does not help matters. The Titans—I don’t know what to say about that defense. Everything was going according to plan until they let the Jets' passing offense take off in the second half. In fairness, that second half was the best half the Jets' offensive line has had this season, with no close second. Derrick Henry also had the game that was envisioned, but it did not pan out in the end.
Onto Week 5. There are loads of tight lines this week—13 of the 16 games have a spread of a touchdown or less. We will be pinpointing two of these games, taking superior teams laying less than a touchdown. Let’s get to them.
