NBA Player Prop Bets: White Sets Up Celtics

Today’s props are focused on matchup specifics as well as an injury situation that should lead to a spike in volume for one player.

Today’s NBA Player Prop Bets (January 23, 2023)

Derrick White Over 5.5 Assists (+125 at DraftKings)

In the NFL, you always hear the term cluster injuries but the principle can be true in the NBA as well, which benefits Derrick White heading into tonight’s game.

White’s playmaking ability has not been utilized as much this season playing next to Marcus Smart and Malcolm Brogdon most of the season, relegating him to being more of an off-ball offensive contributor. That changes tonight with Smart and both Brogdon out of the lineup. In the only other game this season where both players were out, White recorded 10 assists on 17 potential assists. Of course, some of the responsibility will fall on Jayson Tatum to create more for others but there should be plenty left on the bone for White. In six games Smart has missed this season, White has gone over this prop twice, but two of those games included massive Brogdon efforts that will not be available tonight.

Boston is in Orlando, taking on a Magic team that has not done much to prevent point guards from getting their numbers lately, ranking 11th in assists to points guards. Jonathan Isaac makes his long-awaited return for Orlando tonight, so how that changes the rotations for the Magic and some of the defensive communication could lead to easy opportunities for White and the Celtics. With no other true point guard in the backcourt, White should have a high minutes floor and many more opportunities than this prop indicate.
