An Expert's Cheat Sheet to Dominating Yahoo! Fantasy Football Drafts
August is the meat and potatoes of fantasy football draft season and each site has its own special qualities. There are a couple of things that remain true for all fantasy leagues:
- Know your league
- Know your scoring format
- Site ADP should not prevent you from getting ‘your guy’
- Use 4for4 for everything draft-related
No two drafts are the same, including your home league that has been running for a decade. People change and drafting styles will never be set in stone, so pouring over stats is usually not enough.

Let’s focus on the Yahoo! fantasy platform. Their format asks you to start one QB, two RBs, two WRs, one TE, one K, and one D/ST. Yahoo! is a half-point PPR scoring format. If you have never done half or full-point PPR, it applies to all players equally. Players with more receptions get more points, so adjust accordingly.
The following tips are for your Yahoo! draft. Not all site ADPs are created equally so here is a rundown on how to crush your draft. One final important note: the following does not guarantee that you will win your league. It does help you adjust to values and trends seen on the Yahoo! platform as of August 17th, 2022.
It’s Okay to Draft a Wide Receiver in the First Round
A lot of the ramp-up to draft season has been centered around the battle for who to pick first overall. Jonathan Taylor (1.01 ADP as of August 17) and Christian McCaffrey (4.0) are popular options, but Cooper Kupp (3.8) or Justin Jefferson (6.8) makes sense, too. Once past J.T. and CMC, it is easier to poke bigger holes in the hype balloons at running back. Kupp and Jefferson are unquestioned lead wideouts and have the fewest negatives at the moment. 2021 may be Kupp’s ceiling season but he was also not expected to top the WR position. There’s still plenty of juice in the Rams offense that can give Kupp another shot at the WR1 in fantasy in 2022. Jefferson has the opportunity to continue his meteoric rise at the position despite a strong offensive cast around him in Minnesota.
