Week 1 IDP Waiver Wire: Pickups & Targets (Fantasy Football 2023)
Week 1 is here. Fantasy drafts are drawing to their conclusions and you might be staring at your roster and asking yourself, "What was I thinking with that pick?" The injury bug for IDPs this offseason hasn't been as pronounced, but there were some surprising roster cuts and depth chart moves.
Are you looking at your roster and suffering from a case of buyer's remorse? Here are some waiver wire targets you can grab to replace those draft-day mistakes.
Linebacker
Robert Spillane, LB, Las Vegas Raiders
It appears Robert Spillane is going to wear the dot for the Raiders, which means he's relaying the defensive play calls and making the checks at the line of scrimmage. It also means he won't leave the field. The dot doesn't equal production, however, it equals snaps which leads to production. As with all positions, you have to be on the field to contribute. Something Spillane didn't see a lot of in 2022.
Spillane was Pittsburgh's dime linebacker and only appeared in 59% of their defensive snaps, resulting in 588 total snaps. He was efficient and productive with those snaps, as he recorded a 13.4% tackle rate and a nearly 2:1 solo-to-assist ratio. He'd finish with 79 total tackles and he'd add a sack and four defended passes.
Spillane is on the radar as a weekly LB2 if he holds on to his three-down role. As long as he's on the field, he has IDP value. If you drafted guys like Christian Kirksey, Terrel Bernard, or Nicholas Morrow, I'd drop them for Spillane.
