When Will North Carolina Sports Betting Launch? Maybe for March Madness
The state of North Carolina is launching sports betting in 2024 and a potential date has arisen that should excite bettors. Here's what we know about when the state will go live, sportsbook partnerships, and more.
When Will North Carolina Sports Betting Launch?
The state law passed in June 2023 called for NC sports betting to launch between January 8, 2024, and June 2024. An early January launched was ruled out a few months ago by the North Carolina Lottery Commission. Then, they ruled out getting online before Super Bowl LVIII which is on February 11, 2024. So when will the state launch?
Governor Roy Cooper recently stated the commission's goal is to get North Carolina sports betting live by March Madness. There is still no confirmed date but getting live before the NCAA Tournament is the committee's goal. The 2024 March Madness Tournament begins on March 19, 2024.
Application Date Passes for Sports Betting Licenses
Sportsbook operators had until December 27, 2023, to submit sports betting license applications. The North Carolina Lottery Commission will take the next 60 days to review applications and approve up to 12 online sportsbooks. Several of the country's popular sportsbooks have already formed partnerships to get a jump on the competition.
Several Sportsbook Form Partnerships
The North Carolina sports betting law calls for sportsbook operators to form partnerships with professional sports teams or facilities. A few of the top sportsbooks have already jumped at the bit to strike deals in the state. This basically guarantees they will be able to launch when the state goes live in 2024. Here's a look at what sportsbooks have formed partnerships.
- bet365 Sportsbook: Charlotte Hornets (NBA)
- ESPN Bet: Quail Hollow Club (PGA)
- FanDuel: PGA Tour
