Coming off a backup role in Las Vegas, Devontae Booker should see a similar situation in New York, with Saquon Barkey returning from injury. Booker has shown pass-catching prowess in his past, so could see a decent amount of work should Barkley sustain an injury again in 2021.

The surgery on New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley's right knee came on Friday, 40 days after it gave out while he was trying to break a tackle in a game against the Chicago Bears on Sept. 20. It was considered a success with the ACL being reconstructed and meniscus repaired.

Barkley had been waiting for the swelling in his knee to go down, which is often the case when there is MCL damage. Then, the procedure was delayed until the World Series ended and Dr. Neal ElAttrache, the team physician for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Rams, was available to perform the surgery.

As the story also said, and perhaps most important to note for fantasy owners, his injury recovery time is considered 9-12 months. He will have about 10½ months to get himself right for Week 1 of next season, so he shouldn't rush his recovery. Knowing his tight relationship with Cleveland receiver Odell Beckham Jr., who also recently tore his ACL, expect the two to intertwine their rehab this offseason while they experience a similar process, the story added.

An MRI has confirmed that running back Saquon Barkley suffered a torn ACL in Sunday's game, the New York Giants announced Monday.

Gallman was a scratch in Week 2, but could take over as the early-down back with Lewis assuming the pass catching role. Back in the offseason, there were reports the Giants had confidence in Gallman. Other reports say the Giants were hosting Freeman on a visit Monday.

Saquon Barkley is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL and the Giants are looking for running back help from outside the organization.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that they will have Devonta Freeman in for a workout this week.

Freeman said last week he was waiting to sign as four teams were interested. Freeman waited things out and now the Giants could be the best fit for him. The Giants may also be motivated buyers after Barkley went down with a suspected torn ACL on Sunday, the story said. Freeman may not be able to produce at Barkley’s level, but the Giants may see him as an upgrade on the Dion Lewis and Wayne Gallman combo that currently leads their backfield. Gallman was a surprise scratch in Week 2.

The Giants might have lost more than just a game on Sunday as the belief is superstar running back Saquon Barkley suffered a season-ending injury.

Barkley sustained a knee injury in the first half of the Giants' 17-13 defeat to the Bears and did not return. Based on manual tests and initial diagnosis, Barkley suffered an ACL tear, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported.

Barkley will have an MRI, but the belief is Barkley is out for the season, Rapoport added. Gallman could be a popular pickup this week. He could get a lot of the early-down work with Lewis the change of pace and pass-catching option. But, Gallman was a surprise scratch in Week 2, leaving Lewis as the backup to Barkley this week.

Saquon Barkley has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday's contest against the Chicago Bears, the Giants announced.

The sensational running back was helped off the field on the first play of the second quarter. Barkley ripped off his helmet, writhing in pain on the Bears sideline, grabbing at his right knee after a six-yard run to open the quarter. Teammates helped the running back across to the field to the Giants bench. Barkley couldn't put pressure on his right leg.

The RB was carted to the locker room. Barkley punched the cart as he was driven off, perhaps indicating the severity of the injury, the story said. The team stated that Barkley had been taken in for X-rays on his knee and would undergo further testing Monday. If Barkley has to miss time, Gallman could see early down work with Lewis taking over his usual passing-down role.

The Giants' offense is built around Saquon Barkley's skills, and putting up numbers like Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey did last season (more than 1,000 yards rushing and receiving) or making a run at Chris Johnson's single-season yards from scrimmage record (2,509) seems plausible.

"Certainly, he'll be a big part of what we're doing going forward," OC Jason Garrett said.

The story said Garrett's history shows he is more than willing to lean on a star running back, as nobody averaged more carries per game (20.9) over the past four seasons than Ezekiel Elliott did under Garrett with the Dallas Cowboys. Elliott even finished second among running backs with 431 routes run last season. The story went on to say the passing game is where Barkley could make significant gains. Watching him run routes at practice, the mismatches are obvious. His routes are crisper than ever. His explosiveness has returned.

The Giants haven't been able to get the run game going consistently, and even more problematic, Saquon Barkley is becoming less of a factor in the pass game.

Barkley had two receptions for 1 yard on Sunday to go along with 59 yards on 17 carries (3.5 yards per carry). The struggles continue, even though he told ESPN he felt better afterward than he had following a game in quite some time. Barkley has failed to top 100 total yards in four of five games since returning from a high ankle sprain suffered in late September. This was the concern in the summer for potential Barkley owners - that defenses would be able to shut down the second year back without a lot of other threats on offense.
