The next step of Nick Folk's rehab from hip surgery will come Monday when he begins kicking a volleyball. Folk will move from a volleyball to a soccer ball to kicking off a tee before his full return in training camp.

Folk will visit with Dr. Marc Philippon in Vail, Colo., on Saturday for a checkup after beginning light jogging last week.

"Feels awesome," Folk said. "I can't complain. It's more tired than anything else. It's not like it's sore, just tired."

I ran into Folk at the Poker for Pets event Thursday and he said he is feeling great and ready to do some light - extremely light - running on Monday. Renowned surgeon Dr. Marc Philippon performed Folk's surgery in Vail, Colo., and said Folk should come back stronger and never have an issue with the labrum again. Folk said he should be able to start kicking a volleyball in mid- to late June. Why a volleyball? It's lighter and offers less resistance. And he will move up from there. He talked with Olindo Mare, Seattle's kicker, who had the same surgery not too long ago about what to do and what not to do in his rehab. And it's interesting to note Indianapolis' Adam Vinatieri recently had hip surgery too.

Nick Folk's off-season work has been put on hold as he begins rehabilitation from right hip surgery. On Tuesday noted specialist Dr. Marc Phillipon repaired a labral tear in Folk's hip. He is expected to resume light kicking in two months and fully recover by training camp, which begins in late July. "They said the worst that could happen is that I'd be 100 percent by the beginning of training camp, so training camp might be just me getting my legs under me," Folk said. Folk said his hip bothered him for the final five weeks of the 2008 season.
