Texans QB Ryan Fitzpatrick was injured on a scramble and was carted off the field with a boot on his left leg in the second quarter of Sunday's loss to the Colts. His leg is broken, according to NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport, per a team source. His season is over.

Rookie Tom Savage entered the game and completed his first NFL pass to DeAndre Hopkins after avoiding the pressure. But on the second-to-last play of the game, Savage took a hit to his lower leg. Rapoport later add, per a team source, that the QB will have an MRI on Monday. The fourth-round pick would take over a Texans offense that has already lost Ryan Mallett this season. Thaddeus Lewis is the next QB up on the depth chart

Ryan Mallett is the Texans’ starting quarterback.

Coach Bill O’Brien named Mallett the starter Wednesday, after debating during recent days whether to make a change.

“This might be the thing that helps our team,” O’Brien said at NRG Stadium. “I might be wrong.”

O’Brien said Mallett will be given a full shot to hold the starting role.

From a receiving standpoint, the Texans were generating 1.00 fantasy points per pass attempt (1 point per 10 receiving yards plus six points per touchdown divided by the total number of pass attempts). The league average is 0.98, so Ryan Fitzpatrick was decidedly average in helping his receivers to produce receiving yardage and touchdowns. Mallett will have to play pretty well in order to maintain the fantasy value of DeAndre Hopkins and Andre Johnson. Mallett has the Week 10 bye to prepare, and then faces a couple of difficult matchups (CLE & CIN) before the schedule gets easier.

As expected, RB Arian Foster and WRs Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins are active for Monday night. It's a great matchup for Foster owners against Pittsburgh while we have Johnson as a low end WR2 and Hopkins a WR3 against a better Steeler passing defense.

For the Texans, it looks like Arian Foster, Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins all have a great shot to play on Monday night against the Steelers. It's a better matchup for Foster and the running game as the Steelers rank just 20th in allowing fantasy points to RBs, and as a result we have Foster third on our RB list for Week 7. While in the passing game, the Steelers are sixth in allowing fantasy points to WRs. Johnson is ranked 18th this week and Hopkins is 26th.

Dating back to the beginning of the offseason program, Texans WR DeAndre Hopkins made the kind of improvement expected of young players entering their second seasons. His progress has been consistent and often spectacular. The best indication yet was during three practices with the Broncos. Working against Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib, Hopkins was physical getting off the line of scrimmage and attacking the ball. He didn’t let Talib frustrate him. He took the ball away from Talib more often than not, and the veteran corner gave him his proper respect. Hopkins has improved as a route runner. His ball skills are tremendous. He’s got quick, strong hands. His leaping ability is superb. Watching him work the sideline and the back of the end zone against the Broncos to make one catch after another was amazing.

Hopkins finished as the #50 WR in 2013, posting 52 catches for 802 yards and two touchdowns, a solid season for a rookie wideout playing along an established veteran like Andre Johnson. Since 2000, 1st round rookie wideouts with at least 700 yards receiving have increased their fantasy output by 33% in their second season. If Hopkins sees this kind of increase, he’ll be a very solid WR3.
