He'll be in the starting lineup on Monday Night Football against San Diego. Hopkins is expected to play an important role in the passing game opposite Andre Johnson and drew positive reviews for his hard work in training camp.

This is starting to get worrisome. Hopkins suffered a concussion during a car accident in college and has been slow to recover from his mid-August head injury. Hopkins owners should have a backup plan in place for Week 1.

It isn't time to hit the panic button with Hopkins, but it's good to know a player's history when pulling the trigger on draft day. He's a high-upside WR4, but does not come without baggage.

He's been in the first phase for a while. This is definitely something to consider when deciding who to draft in the 10th/11th round. There are healthier options out there (i.e. Kenbrell Thompkins, Alshon Jeffery, Chris Givens, Golden Tate, etc.).

Hopkins suffered a concussion early against the Dolphins Saturday night. Kubiak said he’s in “phase one” of the NFL’s five-stage protocol designed to protect players recovering from concussions.

“Can you make up five stages between now and Sunday? Yes, you can,” Kubiak said. “But we’ll see. He’s day-to-day.”

Hopkins should be fine by Week 1, but he's missing reps and additional concussions become more worrisome if they should occur. Prospective owners shouldn't let this dissuade them from drafting Hopkins in the 9th or 10th round. He should make an immediate impact as the Texans' WR2.

After the game, Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed Hopkins did sustain a concussion and appeared disoriented on the field.

"He didn't run the route, didn't get his depth, was just stumbling all over the place," Kubiak said, via The Associated Press. "So we got him out."

Hopkins will have to go through protocol to get back on the field and it's likely he misses preseason game 3, the story said. However, he's still expected to keep the WR2 job across from Andre Johnson. Various early predictions said he could haul in up to 60 passes this season. He's a late-round sleeper option.

The Texans have been in desperate need of a WR2 who could threaten defenses down the field and who could be relied on to rack up catches when Andre Johnson was facing a touch matchup.

DeAndre Hopkins came into the draft as the WR whom I believed was the most NFL-ready of the early round players. "Nuk" has solid hands, has enough game speed to get behind defenses and he's showing that his ability to get out of his breaks is creating separation that the Texans didn't usually see with Kevin Walter. While it is very early into camp and the pressure will ratchet up, the thing that has impressed me most with Hopkins is that he looks very comfortable on the field and he doesn't appear to be pressing much at all.

In one-on-one drills against the CBs, Hopkins made an difficult grab in the corner of the endzone with Roc Carmichael hanging all over him. In the team portion down during redzone scrimmage against the defensive starters, Hopkins ran an out that shook Johnathan Joseph and created enough space for Matt Schaub to make a comfortable throw before Hopkins went out near the goal line. Hopkins ability to threaten defenses down the field, with quick-release fades near the end zone and over the middle should give the Texans as potent a passing attack as we have seen over the last 2 or 3 season.

For fantasy football owners out there who are devouring everything they can in preparation for their drafts/auctions, anything less than 50 catches for Hopkins would seem disappointing to me at this early stage. In reality, I think 52-60 catches is a very reasonable goal for Hopkins and I could see him with even more if Schaub continues to develop confidence in the young wideout throughout camp and in the pre-season.

We currently have Hopkins projected for 58 catches for 858 yards and 4.5 TDs, which is right in line with Zierlein's prediction. He's an interesting WR4 that's going in the early double-digit rounds.
