Kraft won't close door on Vick, but don’t need him

Much like his coach, Patriots owner Robert Kraft won't definitively close the door on possibly signing Michael Vick.

But he came a little closer than Bill Belichick has the last few days.

Kraft was a guest on satellite radio Saturday and was asked about Vick. Host Tim Ryan's wanted to know if the signing of Vick was a coach's call or an owner's call, and whether the Pats would sign him.

"Well, I think each situation would probably be unique and I can't speak about how things work in other areas or [on] other teams," said Kraft. "This is a complicated one. I would think that most owners would want to have some kind of input into the decision, at least, I wouldn't do it from a football end but just understanding everything."

But he seemed to question the need for Vick on the Patriots.

"But for us," he said, "that's an academic problem because we've got the No. 1 player at that [QB] position in the world as far as I'm concerned [in Tom Brady] and why would we ever want to do anything that would take him off the field for one play?"
