As expected, Montgomery is out for Week 5. Jones reportedly took the first team reps which makes him a safer start, but Williams should be involved in the offense. Jones seems like the safer PPR play. Meanwhile, Adams was cleared from his concussion and is good to go.

Running back Ty Montgomery thinks there's a chance he could play a little more than a week after he sustained what he called "multiple broken ribs." Wide receiver Davante Adams could follow suit after he spent a night in the hospital.

Both Green Bay Packers players were hurt during last Thursday's win over the Bears but still could play this Sunday at Dallas.

Adams remained in the concussion protocol, the Packers said Tuesday, but ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that a source thought Adams would play Sunday.

The story pointed out last year Adams returned from a concussion without missing a game and had a huge day. Both players are coming off a long week this time which could help their chances. Monty said ultimately it will be up to him whether he plays. The story said Williams is also aiming to play but the team may go with Jones. It seems a lot is still up in the air as far as Packers players go so be sure to keep track every day.

Packers RB Ty Montgomery in an interview said he has multiple broken ribs.

"I'm going to do my best to try to be out there. But of course, I have to be wary of risking something more serious. I don't want to puncture any internal organs. We all know how serious that can be. It's also kind of frustrating when an injury happens - obviously it's in the public eye and everybody wants to know what's going on. But I wish I could have some privacy on my own injuries sometimes. And I wish the people that are reporting things from anonymous sources could be held accountable for the things that they report.

"It is what it is. But I will say that (the ribs) are broken. Multiple. And I'll be fine. I'm feeling a lot better than I felt on Thursday. I can laugh now, I can sleep now. My movement's fine. It's just a matter of, is it going to be safe enough for me to be out there and not risk internal injury? That's the conversation I'm trying to have now."

The severity of Monty's injury has been all over the place since last Thursday night. There were reports he would play this week against Dallas, but with now multiple broken ribs it perhaps makes it a bit tougher for him to suit up. In another report, EPSN's Rob Demovsky thinks "it might be a stretch" for Montgomery to play this week. With Williams battling a knee injury, Jones could be leading the way out of the backfield at least for Week 5.

We asked our injury expert, Russell Manalastas, about Montgomery's recovery timeline: "With reports of multiple rib fractures, it's unlikely for him to be ready in 10 days, could be out a few weeks but ultimately comes down to pain tolerance. If it was single level rib fracture, then likelihood of him coming back sooner goes up, but if he's got a few ribs broken that becomes more troublesome to try and play through." Rapoport makes it sound as if it's the former, and that Montgomery will miss a week or two. Due to his ability to pass protect, Jamaal Williams had been running ahead of Aaron Jones, but Williams was also injured (knee) against the Bears, so Jones got the call. He finished with 49 yards and a touchdown on 13 carries. Jones has good measurables, especially his burst and agility scores, and it showed on Thursday night as he had several nice scampers. It's clear that he's the more explosive runner of the two, but it's not clear if the Packers are willing to play him ahead of Williams. Aaron Ripkowski is also an option if neither rookie is able to secure the starting gig while Montgomery is sidelined.

With Ty Montgomery out with a leg injury, Mays worked as the No. 2 running back behind fourth-round pick Jamaal Williams. It means he jumped ahead of fifth-round pick Aaron Jones. That could be the order in which they play in Saturday’s second preseason game at Washington.

This is an on-going competition, and with Ty Montgomery's limited RB experience, pass protection concerns and now a leg injury, whoever emerges as his back-up from the trifecta of RBs the Packers drafted certainly has upside in this upper-echelon offense (if Montgomery falters in the regular season).

There wasn't one moment or one play that caused Ty Montgomery to grab his lower leg in agony, which is why the Green Bay Packers running back tried to play off his injury -- which he would describe in no more detail than calling it a "soft-tissue" problem -- as nothing major.

Montgomery did not practice on Tuesday and his status for Saturday's second preseason game at Washington is in doubt. Montgomery carried three times in last week's preseason opener and fumbled before he gave way to rookie Jamaal Williams.

"It was just something on and off, something I'm dealing with," Montgomery said after practice. "Nothing in particular that happened, nothing major, nothing to worry about."

Montgomery added he took the day off so the injury didn't worsen. We had a story on Williams Monday that said he's most likely the guy to get carries among the three backs the team drafted this year. He's looking like a solid option to draft as a backup to Monty.
