Bengals beat writer Geoff Hobson on the team's offensive philosophy under new OC Hue Jackson:

"Jackson is committed to changing it and I think he’s also committed to taking the load off Andy Dalton. A big adjustment that has to make is cutting his pass attempts from 586 to closer to Russell Wilson’s number of 407.

"To heck with the short stuff. The running game should open up the deep ball and with Jackson’s experience under Al Davis you can believe they’ll be running many more vertical routes."

Hobson writes this with an editorial slant, so it should be taken with a grain of salt. Dalton's pass attempts are very likely to drop, but it's not likely that they fall to Seattle's levels. For one, the Bengals don't have the running game that the Seahawks have, and their defense isn't as good, either. Giovani Bernard is better in the receiving game (than Marshawn Lynch) and the Bengals have an elite receiver in A.J. Green. The Bengals were pretty balanced in 2013 and may tilt a bit more towards the run in 2014.

In case some people thought Seahawks WR Paul Richardson's long touchdown receptions earlier were just a rookie-camp phenomenon, the wide receiver from Colorado put those thoughts to rest at Day 2 of the Seahawks' minicamp Wednesday.

Richardson showed off his blazing speed again, running right by two defenders to make a leaping catch on a 55-yard touchdown throw from Russell Wilson.

Richardson is going to have a tough time getting on the field behind Percy Harvin, Doug Baldwin, Sidney Rice and Jermaine Kearse, but he has blazing speed, so he could see some snaps as a deep threat.

Seahawks WR Paul Richardson can really run: That’s not a surprise, but the rookie receiver from Colorado has not disappointed anyone. This guy can fly.

Just in the days the media have been on the sidelines watching, Richardson has burned defenders on four deep throws for touchdowns. He did it again Monday, a 50-yard TD from Russell Wilson to Richardson when he had 5 yards on rookie defender Dion Bailey.

When the Seahawks have Percy Harvin and Richardson on the field at the same time this season, opposing teams will worry about getting beat over the top. They have to account for their speed and won’t be able to cheat up near the line of scrimmage.

Consequently, it will open things up for the other receivers, like Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse, and the tight ends, along with running backs on swing passes in the flat.

Harvin and Baldwin are likely to start, with Kearse and Sidney Rice rotating in, but Richardson could get snaps as a rookie due to his ability to stretch the field.

Raiders trade Terrelle Pryor to the Seahawks, per league source.

Pryor fits in as the #2 or #3 QB, probably at #3 with Tarvaris Jackson already in Seattle. This is an interesting move by the Seahawks. Pryor is a terrific athlete and the team is hoping to mold him into a capable backup to Russell Wilson.

Sidney Rice agrees to terms with the Seahawks, per league source. One-year deal.

Rice's return puts a big dent in Doug Baldwin's upside. Baldwin was looking like a nice late round sleeper as a starter for the Seahawks, but his playing time is in some jeopardy now with Rice in the mix. Russell Wilson gets another weapon in the passing game. Rice should be fantasy relevant provided he stays healthy.

A throwing session Percy Harvin had with quarterback Russell Wilson on Monday, which went extremely well, helped persuade Seattle Seahawks coach Pete Carroll not to place the wide receiver on season-ending injured reserve, league sources said.

Sources said Harvin, who has played in just one game this season following offseason hip surgery, looked "amazing" during the session and that the Seahawks believe it is possible he will play when the team opens the postseason at home Jan. 11.

The plan for now is to have Harvin rejoin practice Thursday and perhaps another week off will help him get ready for their home playoff opener.

Buccaneers CB Darrelle Revis said during his weekly radio show on WDAE (620 AM) on Thursday that his reconstructed left knee prohibited him from playing the press man style that has made him arguably the best cornerback in the league.

“Earlier in the year, I didn’t have the explosion to play press; the receiver would just run the (vertical) 9-route on me and I didn’t have the stamina to do that play in and play out, especially playing press.

“I mean, you get physical up there playing press coverage and then actually just running. That’s running full speed — you and the receiver. I didn’t have that yet.

“I’m starting to get that back now, which is awesome because I like to be in receivers faces and try to put my hands on them and try to be physical with them.”

Revis said he began to play more press coverage a week ago during the Bucs loss to Carolina, when he spent a good part of the day shadowing Panthers Pro Bowl receiver Steve Smith. He said he responded well physically to that test.

If Revis is going to shadow Golden Tate (who caught two TDs against the Rams in Week 8), it may cause for concern for Tate owners. With Sidney Rice (ACL) out, Tate may see more targets, which could offset the bad matchup. Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse could get a few extra opportunities if QB Russell Wilson avoids throwing in Revis's direction.

There's a belief among many people in NFL circles that running quarterbacks will pay the price this season, more than they did last fall, against defenses that are not going to be as tentative and under-prepared. That's a potential problem for the league.

"Every guy I've talked to is going to go after the quarterback," said Hall of Fame coach John Madden, co-chairman of the NFL's safety committee. "That's going to be their answer. If you watch what they did last year, a lot of guys played the quarterback. If he pitches, get off him. If he keeps it, tackle him. Now, they're just going to go after him whether he pitches or not."

When a quarterback tucks the ball and runs upfield, he becomes a running back and therefore loses the generous protection afforded quarterbacks in terms of when and how they can be hit. It's an ominous loophole.

Those fantasy owners with Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick and Russell Wilson should be aware in this shift in strategy from the defensive side of the ball.
